Zensation Beaute Healing and Soothing Mask

Here's what it says on the box:

  • It is suitable for sensitive, combination or oily skin type.

  • A purifying, clarifying mask which visibly improves the appearance of oily and problem skin. Healing & Soothing Mask formulated with carefully chosen ingredients with plant extracts and essential oils to effectively reduce appearance of impurities and excess oil and provides an intensive cleansing and purification for oily and blemished skin.

  • The main active ingredients safely and effectively slow or stop the growth of bacteria. Also actively prevent the spread of germs to minimize the risk of skin infections.

I was lucky enough to have been sent this goodie in the mail by Ms. Beauty Blog Network herself- Elke Von Freudenberg! It is packaged in a cute little box with a tiny plastic applicator stick. I personally had never put on a mask with a stick before, but it was surprisingly lovely. I spread this mask all over my face and waited for 20 minutes before I used a slightly damp paper towel to remove it. (I like to use paper towels instead of tissues because they're rougher and more textured, so they exfoliate better). The scent of the product is fine, it's not too strong but it feels refreshing. I couldn't actually tell if my skin looked any better, but it did look moist and hydrated. I'm willing to try this out a few more times and see if my skin improves. I encourage you to do the same!

Benefit Benefits/ Splendicity Contest 9/26/07

Now is the time when cosmetic companies start the Holiday Rush. This is only the beginning and it's not even October yet, but I'm all ready struggling to keep up.

These would be the new sets from Benefit.
The Best of Benefit Set ($65 value for $46) contains Eye Bright (the eye brightening pencil), Dallas and BADgal Lash mascara, wrapped up in a pretty purple box.

Powder Pop ($30) is a box set that contains 3 of Benefit's famous face powders: Dalls (rosy bronze), Hoola (bronze) and Dandelion (soft pink) and a signature brush. Am I reading this right? You get all 3 for nearly the price of one?! The only thing that would make this better to me is if it contained Georgia instead of Dallas.

Tokidoki for Smashbox/ Splendicity 9/25/07

If you don't know, I happen to have a thing for Tokidoki. That's my ipod skin right now, the design is called Tsuru. It's like Hello Kitty meets sexy Asian girls. I was pretty excited when I noticed that all of the Limited-edition Tokidoki for Smashbox items were on sale @ Smashbox.com. (If you want any, go now!) I bought the lip gloss in Dolcissima (luminous peachy pink) for $13.50 (reg. $18) and the skin tint in Bella (bright coral) for $21 (reg. $28). I love the gloss, it goes on sheer and blends to be a shimmery light pink. Plus it's the classic Smashbox formula, so it lasts and lasts. The skin tint is very bright in the tube, but don't be scared. I suggest using a large flat foundation brush to paint it on the apples of cheeks. It will go on softer that way. Adds instant color to the face. Oil free. Contains vitamins A, C & E, echinacea and aloe.

Chanel Fall 2007

This (right) is the new Chanel Palette and... frankly, I really want to drop $85 on it right now. But no, I need to be good. It contains 4 eye shadows, 1 blush, 2 lipsticks and 2 glosses.

The other new Chanel Palette is called Les 4 Camelias de Chanel. It's way too pretty to ever use in my opinion. Gorgeous to look at... Would you buy either of these?

Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Blush

"Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Blush ($12.99) is a whole new way to blush, naturally! It not only delivers the perfect amount of color every time, it’s actually good for skin. Developed by dermatologists, this lightweight powder contains pure, gentle minerals that soften and smooth skin, while the innovative all-in-one brush delivers just the right amount of color. With naturally-derived silk powder, patented Total Soy, and an exclusive multi-vitamin complex of Vitamin E, Pro-Retinol, Vitamin C and Pro-Vitamin B5, even the most sensitive skin is beautifully conditioned and toned. In five luxurious shades, there’s no better way to enjoy healthy-looking, glow-from-within color—naturally. Available in: Precious Pink, Natural Apricot, Silky Sable, Rare Rose, Pure Plum and Illuminator."

This was another gift from Elke. Ever since Neutrogena introduced their mineral makeup, I was interested in testing it out. (These people produce some really fantastic, reasonably priced skincare products- I'd expect nothing less from their cosmetics). All you have to do is shake up the tube and test it out on your hand to make sure the powder if flowing. Sweep the brush gently across your cheeks to deposit just the right amount of color. I got this in Rare Rose, a muted dusty pink and well, I'm addicted.

This is the greatest time saver in the world. First of all, I love sleeping. I LOVE it. I am unable to function with anything less than 8 hours/ night. (What can I say? I need my beauty sleep). Anyway, I have my morning routine down, using every last second I can.

I wake up at 7:50 a.m. and hop in the shower. Scrub-scrub-scrub. Moisturize, deodorize, brush my teeth. Get dressed. By now it's 8:05 a.m. The next 10 minutes are used for makeup application. That's right, 10 minutes to not look like a zombie. Usually I don't have time to do blush, but now it only takes 5 seconds and I have to say, it is an huge improvement. Blush makes everyone look better. EVERYONE. And this particular blush is extremely natural looking and almost fool-proof. It's soft, un-shimmery and easy to blend. Don't leave this one out of your morning routine.

Diesel- Fuel For Life

Fuel For Life For Her was created by Annick Menardo and Thierry Vasseur and is a chypre-floral, with top notes of mandarin and pink pepper, heart notes of blackcurrant and jasmine and patchouli and musk at the base of the olfactory pyramid. $49.50- 50 ml. bottle

-I have to say that the lace pouch the bottle comes in is extremely feminine and I love the way it looks on my mirrored perfume tray. It took me a few hours to get completely used to this scent, it's different, like a musky floral. But I imagine a more hippie or bohemian kind of girl wearing it.

Fuel For Life For Him belongs to the fougere-powdery scent family. Noses Annick Menardo and Jacques Cavallier created the For Him scent, which has top notes of anise and grapefruit, middle notes of raspberry and lavender and base notes of heliotrope and dry woods. ($44.50 - 50 ml. bottle)

-My boyfriend doesn't wear cologne because when he was little, his dad told him that only gay guys wear cologne. Mm-hm. We all know that's not true (and so does his dad) and it was easy to convince him to wear it. (Actually I just sprayed him with it- and there was no escape!) I like this scent because it smells like the guy isn't trying too hard. It's light and woodsy but a little bit sweet. For his first cologne, I think it's a good start.

Elizabeth Arden Part II

-Elizabeth Arden Eye Fix Primer ($19)- A light textured cream that creates an invisible shield that prevents your eye shadow from creasing, streaking and fading while moisturizing. I used this invisible primer below the eyes of my friend Corinne, at her wedding. It created a smooth base that I layered concealer over. Also great for everyday. Fragrance free.

-Elizabeth Arden Lip-Fix Cream ($19.50)- This lip cream adds moisture and prevents your lipstick from bleeding and feathering. Since I tend to get dry around my mouth I use it daily, before I put on lipstick. Fragrance free.

-Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Sheer Liptint ($17.50)- It's Elizabeth Arden's famous 8 Hour Cream in a tinted lipstick form. Moisturizes, shields against sun exposure with SPF 15 and provides antioxidant protection with vitamin E. I like the white tube and the sheer colors (Blush and Plum) but its scent is overwhelming.

-Elizabeth Arden Color Intrigue Smooth Line Lip Pencil ($15)- A long, wooden lip liner with a brush on the opposite end. Perfect for filling in your lips before lipstick for extra staying power. The brush makes blending a breeze.

-Elizabeth Arden Smoky Eyes Powder Pencil ($16)- A creamy powder pencil with a smudger on the other end. I carry one in Espresso around in my purse because it can also be used as an eyebrow definer in a pinch.

-Elizabeth Arden Mediterranean Eau de Parfum ($47.50)- "Radiant. Sensual. Captivating. A modern expression of sparkling radiance. Sensual florals combine with creamy woods to reflect the whispering waters and rich textures of the Mediterranean." I gave this one to my mom, who loves it. It's an interesting combination of scents. She smells fresh and so much lighter- she usually wears very heavy florals. My dad is a fan, too.

-Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Fragrance ($27)- My grandmom loves tea, so I figured she might like a tea based perfume. This one is a delightful and refreshing, like caraway, citrus, peppermint, oakmoss and musk in your green tea. It's light and a nice change for the summertime.

Black Honey x 2

Clinique claims that 300 tubes of Black Honey Almost Lipstick are sold every minute.
Seriously. That's not just some made up lie they tell you so you buy it. It's true.
If you're not familiar with Almost Lipstick ($14), it's a sheer, lipstick- lip gloss hybrid.
Black Honey is aptly named because it appears black in the tube, yet when applied is a deep berry shade. I've had the same tube since I was 13. Well, guess what? It's now available in Limited Black Raspberry and Limited Black Plum. Plum is a warm, deep pink and Black Raspberry is more purple-y. I think I'm going to try the Plum...

fresh Satin Luster Face Palette

I've never tried fresh makeup before. So I was excited to try the Satin Luster Face Palette ($45). The slim, shiny mauve compact contains 3 weightless, creamy face colors that illuminate and highlight the entire face. Enriched with evening primrose seed oil and meadowfoam seed oil. Colors are: China Pearl (shimmering white), Peach Butterfly (shimmering apricot) and Winter Rose (shimmering rosy-pink). Needless to say, the cream color glides on easily and blends well with the heat of your fingertips. I like to highlight my brow bones with China Pearl, apply Peach Butterfly to my cheek bones and on my cupid's bow. For a blushing iridescence, I like Winter Rose on the apples of my cheeks.

MAC Smoke Signals Review

I brought all my new MAC goodies with me on vacation and I have to say, I really really like the entire Smoke Signals collection. The first thing I tried was the Smoking Eyes Eye Shadow Quad. Next to Nothing (creamy white with pink pearl) is perfect as a base. Satin Taupe (taupe brown with silverly bronze shimmer) reminds me a lot of my favorite, Urban Decay's Stray Dog. I apply it from the eyelash line to about 2/3 up my eye with a medium fluffy brush, I use Bare Escentuals’ Tapered Shadow Brush. The deep matte brown, Show Stopper, is good as a liner or for more definition. I use a short bristled, rounded brush like Becca's Eye Contour Brush 38, to “smoke” the lower 1/3 of my eye. Lastly, Smoking (black with gold) is great for nighttime, used wet as a liner, it provides deep, lasting black color and the golden specks of glitter glam it up.
The two liners I tried were Feline and Orpheus Eye Kohl's. Feline is a “wet- looking” black that’s soft and easy to blend. Orpheus is a pale bronze, I like to line the inner “<” of my eye with it for instant brightness. Since I’ve been doing a bronze smoky eye, I’ve been playing down my lips and cheeks. I use Sparks Can Fly Lipstick underneath a coat of Lipglass in Illicit. Illicit is a slightly rosy, nude beige color. These two combined won’t make you look washed out.
Emote is a matte grey brown powder blush, similar to Bobbi Brown’s Blushed. Applied to the apples of cheeks, it provides definition but looks very natural.
Finally, I have to admit, I’d never tried any MAC mascara before. I was delighted when I received a tube of Zoomlash. When wiggled through lashes, it produces longer, thicker and glossier lashes in a flash. Two coats for the fake lash effect. Removable with water, so don’t cry.

*Thanks for all the comments! I was actually thinking that my feet were getting less cute, I recently was wearing flip-flops and stepped on a steam vent on the street and got a really bad burn... It's hard to find size 5 shoes tho. I bought these black 1/2" platform flip-flops with suede straps at the Green Room in Martha's Vineyard. This style is called Reef Butter Black and cost $36. You can get them online here, at Berk's Shoes.

Blue Storm- Rainy Day

I've never tried MAC nail polish before, but I was pretty excited to apply Rainy Day (metallic gunmetal gray with lilac pearl) to my toes, nearly two weeks ago now. I didn't even use a top coat, because what can I say? I'm lazy. It was easy to apply and it's still ON all my toes. I'm just not sure about the color... Do you like it? If you do, leave a comment below with your email address and someone will be getting a surprise in the mail.

Lancome Reviews

My favorite eye makeup remover ever is Lancome's Bi-Facil ($25). My general complaints with most eye makeup removers are:
It's...
- too sticky
- too oily
- irritating to eyes
- only so effective

Not Bi-Facil, this one does it all! Shake the bottle up and apply to a cotton ball. In one fell swoop , ALL waterproof mascara and eye makeup are gone without a trace. If you've never tried it before, you must, it's completely worth the $24 price tag.I was certainly intrigued, to say the least, when I saw the limited edition, Baume Baiser. I guess I was expecting it to be a rolling ball applicator, but it's not. It's a firm and bouncy pink pillow. Unscrew the lid and massage it into lips for a light, shimmery and conditioning film. I was somewhat let down by this product, the actual balm is pleasant but a bit too sticky and short lived for me. As for the "wonderful coconut milk fragrance," I think it's okay for every now and then, but reapply it every 15 seconds, and my nose is in sickly sweet, nauseated coma.

Hi I'm Pippi

Hi, I'm Pippi I will be contributing to this blog, with my reviews & photos of some make up products.

#1-M.A.C. Paint Pot in 'Deft': Nice shimmery dark teal spiked with an iridescent gold frost. Looks darker in the pot, but goes on sheer, and can be layered for a darker more dramatic effect. Can also be used as a cream liner.Goes on creamy & blendable, and dries to a nice crease & smudge-proof finish. I love the color and the way it STAYS on.

#2-M.A.C. Mineralize in 'Lovestone':

I was quiet excited when I saw this eyeshadow in the pot. It's a nice metallic mauve with marbelized streaks of purple, and coppery bronze. I was even more pleased with how it looked on my eyes. The shadow goes on sheer, but can be layered to a brighter finish, and even more eye popping color if you wet your eyeshadow brush before sweeping on.

I will be contributing to this blog now & then and sharing some of my make up tips I've picked up since I was old enough to wear make up.
I love make up, and learning new tips, and new techniques, and trying new products, and colors., and I love sharing tips!
My favorite make up items? Red Lipstick, black liquid eyeliner, and colorful eye shadows! I believe everyone has a red lipstick out there for them, I find it kind of sad when girls tell me they don't think they can pull off red lipstick, I think EVERY girl should have a red lipstick in their make up box! I encourage them to try a couple shades. Buy a couple cheapie red lipsticks, Prestige has like 5 or more gorgeous shades of red. Test them out, if you find yourself with a red that's less than flattering, some drugstores take returns on 'wrong color' purchases. Once you get the shade & undertone(like blue red, pink red, orange red) that flatters your skin, it'll be pretty easy spotting what will look good on you with the more pricey brands.
My Favorite Tip for applying red lipstick:
First slough off any dry loose skin(say if your lips are chapped) by GENTLY rubbing a small corner of a wash cloth in a tiny circular motion on both top & bottom lip, remember to do this gently you don't want to rub your mouth raw. Then apply a thin layer of lip balm onto your lips, and blot lightly.
Next apply your lip liner, red or nude is fine , apply with the liner laying flat on your lip and lightly fill in so it's kind of light so the lipstick has something to stick to (sometimes I use color stay lipstick to grip the color more). Next apply you red lipstick(I like to use it straight from the tube), then blot with toilet paper, and lightly powder lips with translucent powder, I like to use a dark pink blush so the color blends better and less cloudy. Then repeat this step, about 2 more times and your lips should be set for a while:)
