Review: Bramble Berry Rose Lip Balm

This little gem is only available at Sephora and it's called Brambleberry Rose Lip Balm ($7). The delightful Rosebud Perfume Co. created this yummy berry pie scented balm for "Miss Vivian," the President of Rosebud Perfume Co. (pictured) in Baltimore, 1945. Since I love the Rosebud Salve, I had to try this. I like the sheer, berry color and scent, plus the tin is rather large, so I won't be running out of it any time soon.

Review: La Mer

La Mer was founded when Dr. Max Huber suffered a horrific accident, covering his face with severe chemical burns. Nothing was helping him, so he took matters into his own hands. Twelve years and 6,000 experiments later, Creme de la Mer was created. The heart of the cream is the Miracle Broth. It contains sea kelp, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, lecithin, Vitamins C, E and B12 and oils of citrus, eucalyptus, wheat germ, alfalfa and sunflower. He discovered that through a 3-4 month bio-fermentation process was the key.

-Creme de la Mer ($125 per 1 oz.)- A very rich and thick face cream. Skin becomes softer, firmer and creaseless. Aging lines and pores are noticeably less visible. The driest of complexions are healed and sensitive skins are soothed. To activate the broth, warm a small amount between your fingertips and apply onto clean, dry skin.

-The Lip Balm ($45)- A combination of the nutrient-rich broth found in Creme de la Mer, Lip Lipid Complex (helps infuse moisture back into lips while strengthening the minimal moisture barrier) and Marine Anti-Freeze Protein (a protein found in arctic marine life that keeps them from freezing). It's a minty, plumping and soothing balm. I like to apply a pretty thick layer so I don't have to constantly stick my finger in it.

-The Treatment Creme Foundation SPF 15 ($85)- Inspired by Creme de la Mer, this rich souffle is engineered with weightless color and La Mer's remarkable skincare benefits to transform the complexion. Flexible medium coverage with SPF 15. Available in 8 shades. This is a fluffy, hydrating cream that can be applied with fingers or a foundation brush. In the morning I dab dots of it on my T-zone, cheek bones and chin and rub it in. Great if I'm in a hurry.

-The Treatment Fluid Foundation SPF 15 ($75)- A silken, lightweight fluid that's engineered with weightless color. Gemstones capture light energy to create a translucent color palette, optically erasing imperfections to reveal a naturally flawless complexion. Flexible medium coverage with SPF 15. Available in 10 shades. I used Buff, which was a perfect match. I love the way it's so moisturizing and applied with a foundation brush, it makes you look luminous and evenly toned.

Review: Thymes Red Cherie

Thyme's Red Cherie Collection combines pomegranate with ripe red cherries, passion flower and jasmine with hints of Asian lychee. Paraben free formulas, no artificial color added. The collection offers a large variety of body products.

The packaging is beautiful, stylized cherry blossom vines over a spring green background are the focal point for each piece.

Key Ingredients:
-Organic Passion Flower Extract- Growing on long vines in shaded, woody areas, the passion flower is prized for its skin smoothing and calming properties.

-Vitamin E- A protective vitamin, its antioxidant and moisturizing properties help skin maintain a youthful appearance.

-Organic Wild Cherry Extract- This mineral-rich extract has antioxidant properties, nourishing skin with calcium, phosphorous, iron, sodium, potassium and vitamins A and C.

I tried the shower gel, bubble bath and AHA lotion, which were all delightful. The shower gel is non-drying and foams up nicely. I love the bottle for the bubble bath and the fragrant bubbles it creates. The AHA lotion is moisturizing and exfoliating, but be careful because AHA's will make your skin more susceptible to the sun, so you'll need more sunscreen.

Review: Susan Brown's Baby

So I'm not a mother or anything like that, but I'm not going to turn down a gentle, pretty product from Susan Brown. I used her Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer ($6) and it's great to carry around in your purse. The scent is not overkill like some hand sanitizers. It leaves hands feeling moisturized while decreasing the bacteria on your hands. Pink and blue Vitamin E and jojoba beads that you rub between your hands disappear as your hands dry.

Since almost everyone's pregnant in Hollywood, they've been using Susan Brown's stuff too:

Milla Jovovich has been using the following products on her daughter, Ever:
All Purpose Botanical Gelée
Botanical Body & Massage Oil
Diaper Therapy Ointment
Foaming Shampoo & Baby Wash
Lotion to Powder
Moisturizing Cleansing Cloths
Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer
Nourishing Lotion
Stretch Therapy Overnight Repair
Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30+

Sheryl Crow has been using the following products on her son, Wyatt:
All Purpose Botanical Gelee
Botanical Body & Massage Oil
Foaming Shampoo & Body Wash
Lotion-to-Powder
Moisturizing Cleansing Cloths Travel Pack
Nourishing Lotion
Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30

Bridget Moynahan has been using the following products on her son, John Edward Thomas:
All Purpose Botanical Gelée
Diaper Therapy Ointment
Moisturizing Cleansing Cloths

Tori Spelling has been using the entire mom collection on herself and the baby collection on her son, Liam

Denise Richards has been using the following products on her daughters, Lola and Sam:
All Purpose Botanical Gelée
Moisturizing Cleansing Cloths
Stretch Therapy Warming Masque

Angela Bassett has been using the following products on twins, son Slater Josiah and daughter Bronwyn Golden:
All Purpose Botanical Gelée
Moisturizing Cleansing Cloths
Stretch Therapy Warming Masque

Review: Vincent Longo- Water Canvas Blush

Vincent Longo's Water Canvas Blush ($42.50) uses the patented technology of Vincent Longo's legendary Water Canvas Creme-to-Powder Foundation. This 75% microwater formula is an all-natural botanical seaweed polymer cheek color that's fragrance-free and stays put all day long. This blush is the coolest stuff I've ever seen. When you touch it, it springs back, like a sponge. You can use your fingers or a foundation brush to apply. It provides a dewy, fresh looking flush and dries to a pretty powder that will last and last. If you haven't tried it, I recommend it. The price is high, but you won't be disappointed.

Note: I got this for 1/2 off at a Victoria's Secret Beauty Sale. Keep your eyes peeled for good beauty buys.

Review: billybBEAUTY

I recently received the billybBEAUTY Essential Paint Brush Collection and had my breath taken away. For those of you who don't know, Billy B. is the ultimate makeup artist, with 20+ years of experience working on the most beautiful and glamorous people in the world. He designed these brushes using high quality blends of natural and synthetic components for maximum performance and function. The handle, length and weight were all considered before he decided on the lightweight, varnished birch , which is chic, comfortable and easy to use and store.

billybBEAUTY Essential PAINT BRUSH Collection ($159) - Contains 8 basic tools including:
- Two ($30 value)- A soft, defined, foundation brush designed to apply and blend foundation flawlessly.
- Three ($37.50 value)- A powder/blush brush designed with the woman's face in mind. Slightly narrower than Brush one. Allows you to place the powder only where you need it. I use this to buff powder all over the face.
- Four ($28.50 value)- A blush, powder contour brush for precise application. I love using this with my MAC Contour powder.
- Eight ($24 value)- A soft, fluffy but firm eyeshadow brush with rounded edges. One of my favorite brushes ever. Blends like a dream.
- Ten ($15 value)- A eyeliner brush designed with exactly the right combination of density and length for ultimate control of liquid eyeliner.
- Eleven ($18 value)- A Stiff, angled brush that's "tight and compact" for precision placement of color to create the perfect brow.
- Twelve ($24 value)- A soft but firm angled brush is a Billy B favorite. Perfect for blending and smudging to make a smoky eye, also good for defining the crease of the eye. I'd never used a brush like this before, but the effect is awesome. I recommend.
- Lightweight Aluminum, Lidless, Retractable Lip Brush ($18) - A lidless brush with an automatic closure to keep the brush fresh and clean. Fantastic for purses. Now you can have perfect lips all the time.

The billybBEAUTY Eyelash Curler ($15)- A curler designed to fit the lash line with ease. Flexible rubber linings prevent pinching for maximum curling comfort. I like this one almost as much as I like the Shu Uemura one.

Dior: Spring 2008

1. Dior 5-Colour Iridescent Eyeshadow ($52) - Created with Wet Reflect technology. Ultra-reflective and ultra-luminous. Each palette holds 5 metallic-rich shades. Silky smooth and weightless, so blendable that colors virtually fuse with the skin for looks that defy creasing, smudging or fading. Spring Bouquet (the one I really want) is shown.

2. Dior 'Capture Totale' Foundation SPF 15 ($75) - A unique blend of anti-aging ingredients (Alpha Longoza and Centuline), optical correctors and HD Liquid Crystal Pigments, this revolutionary serum foundation gives skin radiant 'high definition' perfection in every dimension. Boosts collagen, nourishes, replenishes and re-plumps. Ideal for mature skin, dry skin or dull, flat skin. Available in: Cameo, Linen, Peach, Sand, Light Beige, Medium Beige and Rosy Beige.

3. Dior 'Diorskin' Hydrating Pressed Powder ($36.50) - The chic look of Dior's new pressed powder pays homage to Christian Dior's legendary 'New Look" of 1947. A new direction in powder formulation, it creates a matte finish with continuous moisture release to keep skin up to 10% more hydrated even after 6 hours of wear. Available in: Transparent Light, Transparent Medium and Transparent Dark.

4. Dior 'Diorskin' Hydrating Loose Powder ($44) - The Hydrating Powder in loose form.

5. Dior Vernis Long-Wearing Nail Lacquer ($19) - A deep midnight blue polish in a silky smooth formula for long-lasting, glossy nails. The shade was inspired by Dior's Midnight Poison fragrance. Only at Sephora. This will surely rival Chanel's Blue Satin (a sparkling navy blue).

6. Dior 'Flower Blossom' Compact ($52) - An exclusive, limited-edition pressed powder compact that features flowers, a butterfly and gemstone embossed on a pastel background, inspired by Victore de Castellane's famous Dior jewelry collection. I am really not crazy about this at all. I think it's kind of unattractive, but maybe the color it produces is nice. It looks more like art than makeup to me.

7. Dior 'DiorSkin' Magic Shimmer Pressed Powder ($42) - Enriched with Jeweled Microdust, these 5 micr0-shimmering tones set off sparks of brilliance. The ultrafine, super blendable formula virtually fuses with skin for a sheer, radiant luminosity. Available in: Amber Diamond and Rose Diamond (shown). Now this is a shimmer powder I can get excited about. It looks like a Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick but less sparkly.

8. Dior Addict High Shine Lipstick ($25) - A translucent, long lasting lipstick that contains revolutionary lip-fix powders and micro-polymers that cling to your lips to prevent smudging. The light reflecting pigments minimize wrinkles. These are exclusive to Sephora. Available in 19 gorgeous shades.

Review: Blistex Lip Infusion Moisture Splash

Blistex's Lip Infusion Moisture Splash ($2.89) is an innovative lip balm that glides on silky-smooth with the innovative rolling tip applicator. The unique liquid formula absorbs quickly and is infused with a deep penetrating moisturizer for extra comfort. I tried this in Vanilla. It's definitely a liquid rather than a balm, because there's no waxy feel. That also means it wears off quicker, but whether you like that or not is up to you. Did I mention it provides SPF 15 protection without PABA? Being the lip balm fanatic that I am, it was worth a try. But for whatever reason, (could it be the minty, waxy goodness?) I always return to Burt's Bees Original Lip Balm.

Givenchy- Denim Fetiche Collection and Chocolate

Prismissime Eyes - 55 Tempting Chocolate ($53, limited edition) - A palette of 9 eye shadows, offering ultra-matte, high-coverage textures and pearly, shiny ones to shape and illuminate the eyes. The ultra chic, black compact is a two tiered, mirrored case that holds two shading applicators and a lining applicator. This one looks as luscious as the previous one. If you read this and hurry hurry hurry over to the Sephora website, they've got it in stock.

The Givenchy Denim Fetiche Collection features 2 eye quartets, 1 mascara and 2 lipsticks:

Accesor'Eyes Powder & Cream Eyeshadow Quartet ($49.50, limited edition) - Four shadows formulated with 3 different textures to multiply the effects. Available in 01 Black Denim (metallic dark purple, black cream, peach with flecks of purple and metallic silver gray) and 02 Indigo Denim (metallic navy blue, soft peach cream, yellow with flecks of turquoise and metallic lavender).

Captiv'Eyes Mascara
($25, limited edition) - A intense, volumizing mascara that plumps and thickens lashes to the max, while leaving a glossy coat of shine with light reflecting technology. Available in Purple Black (deep burgundy).

Rouge Interdit Satin Lipstick ($26.50, limited edition) - A smoothing and softening, long wearing lipstick that adds color while hydrating. The spreadable texture melts over lips. Packaged inside the classic silver tube, with denim-inspired ribbon. Available in 35 Mauve Fetish (shimmering pinkish mauve) and 36 Stylish Purple (rich burgundy wine).

Review: NARS Lip Gloss

NARS Lip Gloss ($23) is a cult classic that provides serious shine and sexy color in sheer, cream and semi-sheer formulas. Turkish Delight is described as "pink sorbet." It goes on sheer, and when layered, provides a pretty pale pink sheen. This is a good gloss, not sticky and long wearing, my only complaint would be the taste/scent. It's slightly plasticy.

Beauty & Brains: Heather Park

(photo from Makeupbag.net)

1. What ethnicity are you?

I’m Korean-American

2. Where are you from? Where do you live now?

I was born in Brooklyn, raised in Westchester and currently reside in Astoria, Queens.

3. What’s your beauty philosophy?

I think Beauty and makeup are such magical things – it can make you look like who you feel like for that particular day or moment. It can make you LOOK rested when you’ve had 3 hours sleep. It can make you look composed when you’ve just been crying for hours. It can give you a little lift every time you look in the mirror. Beauty should be fun, empowering and individual.

4. What’s your skincare routine?

In the morning: St. Ives Apricot Scrub in the shower, followed by the Mario Badescu Cucumber Cleansing Lotion and the La Mer moisturizing Lotion (in the pump). At night, I use the MAC Gentle Off Eye Makeup Remover to get off my eye makeup, do a preliminary wash with the MAC Cleanse Off Oil then finish with the Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel. Followed by the Mario Badescu Cucumber Cleansing Lotion and the Obagi 10% Vitamin C Serum. J

5. What’s your job? Do you wear makeup to work?

By Day, I am a PR Manager for MAC Cosmetics. By Night, I’m an R&B/Soul Singer. To my day job, I usually keep my makeup pretty simple and clean. I usually get into a makeup rut, where I’ll wear the same look pretty much every day. I used to be more inventive when I was younger, but these days, I just do what works in the morning. Whenever I perform, I’ll usually amp it up with False lashes and bright lips. J

6. What are your top 5 makeup items you have to have?

My top 5 must-have makeup items…I guess for my current makeup look:

-MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium (this product will change the appearance of your skin…as one of our Sr. Artists says, “It will give you 16-yr-old skin!” and it’s true!)

-MAC Pigment in Gold Mode (this is from the 2007 summer collection Rushmetal. This is the most beautiful, smooth golden shade – looks great on Asian skin. It gives that perfect luminescence without looking glittery. Plus it lasts all day long!)

-MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack + 209 Brush (I use this gel liner on my top lid. I’m currently really into the cat eye, and the 209 brush give me the mobility to move around the Fluidline, or wipe off my mistakes!)

-MAC Liquidlast Liner in Point Black (I have a bad habit of rubbing my lower eye, so I use this on my bottom lash line. This product will NOT smudge or move around!! It’s absolutely incredible and my liner stays put throughout the day, despite any and all rubbing!)

-MAC Face + Body Tint (This is a makeup artist staple, which is what first attracted me to try it. It’s an amazing product. It gives a sheer, but buildable coverage and leaves your skin looking dewy and healthy. I always try other foundations, but always come back to this one.)

Review: 3 Custom Color Specialists

- Ski Bunny Lip & Cheek Stain ($20.50) - A sheer, cherry balm with a slight swirl of shimmer that creates a fresh, youthful glow. Rub your finger around a lil bit on the pot and then dab it into the center of the lips for a beautiful, subtly bright pop of color. It looks equally flushed and natural on the cheeks. This is my new favorite. A new purse staple.

- Clarifier Pencil ($14) - These eye pencils are designed to be worn on the inner rim of the eye or along the lash line. The clarifier pencils are used on the inner rim of the eye to brighten and widen. Light is good for fair-medium skin and dark is good for medium-dark tones. These pencils are also great for highlighting under the brow and as a spot concealer in a pinch.

- Brow Powder ($19.50) - Imported from France, these brow powders are finely milled to impart a silky texture and smooth application. Available in 6 shades. I used #6, the darkest shade, because I'm Korean, and my hair is neither black nor brown. It's black-brown. I had been using a typical brow powder that I now realize was much too light for me. This one is the perfect in-between. Not brown, not black, just a serious dark brown. I love applying this with a small angled brush. The finished look is natural and defined.

Wow, I've got to admit, I'm smitten. And I bet you will be too when you try 3CC Specialists.

Review: Eyliplex-2 Eye Lift + Circle Reducer with Suberlift and Haloxyl PFE

Eyliplex-2 Eye Lift + Circle Reducer with Suberlift and Haloxyl PFE ($39.50) is the newest eye cream on the market. Part of the Good Skin collection, the dual solution focuses on visibly tightening the eye area while reducing dark circles. 64% of subjects reported younger-looking eyes. After 4 weeks, clinical studies noted a 20% reduction in the appearance of dark circles and 31% improvement in visible firmness. After 8 weeks, 56% saw a visible increase in lifting in clinical studies. This duo includes a fast acting day gel with Suberlift and a long lasting night balm with Haloxyl PFE. I gave this super special eye cream to my Mom, because she's got circles and I don't really. In 2 weeks she saw small results, increased firmness. Available at Kohls.

Review: Willow Bark To-Go Breakout Treatment

Boscia is a preservative-free, botanically-based skincare company founded in Japan by Kenjo Ikemori, a Japanese entrepeneur. The integrated Boscia line combines the strength of several skincare methods to achieve healthy skin.

Bosica's Willow Bark To-Go Breakout Treatment ($15) is a unique gel containing Willow Bark, Willowherb, Soapberry Peel, Jojoba Leaf, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and other effective ingredients that help reduce redness and inflammation, control oil, and combat free radicals in a convenient pen-like tube. I recently tried this spot treatment, because who doesn't get random zits that pop up at any moment? I had one last week. So I applied this clear gel and waited. I continued applying it and it went away. I'm not sure if it sped up the process, but it seemed to help a little bit and there was no mark afterward. Good for sensitive skin too.

Dr. Brandt Pore Minimizer & Antioxidant Water Booster

Dr. Brandt's Pores No More ($45) - Minimizes pores and shine instantly. Contains microspheres which diffuse light providing skin with a smoother, more uniform finish while absorbing oil to mattify shine. Use in the morning, after cleansing and reapply as needed. This is an oily face's dream.

Dr. Brandt Anti-Oxidant Water Booster- Pomegranate ($35) - A delicious alternative to pills and vitamins, this is an easy way to integrate anti-oxidants to preserve younger looking skin, fight free radical damage and promote overall health. One bottle contains 60 servings. Shake up the bottle, and add one dropper full to an 8 oz. glass of water. For best results, use twice a day. Tastes good hot or cold. 100% natural, caffeine-free, sugar-free, and calorie-free. One full dropper is equivalent to 15 cups of green tea. Promotes younger looking skin and a healthy immune system. While tablets and pills have fillers and binders that interfere with absorption and potency of vitamins, liquids are more quickly absorbed by our system and easily digestible. Also can be mixed with any other liquid or yogurt. *If pregnant or taking medication, please consult your physician.

I was a little wary of this water booster stuff, but was pleasantly surprised when I tried it. It doesn't really have much of a taste, slightly of pomegranate, but not a whole lot different than regular water. There's some weird looking stuff floating around in it, but it's all good for you, so drink it down. My boyfriend likes it too. Whether or not this improves your skin has yet to be seen.
