Review: Shu Uemura Mini Eyelash Curler and Rouge Unlimited Lipstick

I recently ordered this Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipstick #565 ($23)- [golden pink-orange] and got the Mini Eyelash Curler ($17) for free! The lipstick is smooth and super shimmery. The bronzy pink color looks great with a tan. It's very lightweight and feels more like a gloss than a lipstick to me. I'd definitely purchase again. As for the eyelash curler, I'd never tried a small one like this before. I close my eyes and use it on the very outer lashes and they become flipped up perfectly. I can't believe I've never tried it before! It's kind of an Asian girl's dream. The outer lashes are the hardest to curl. Use the mini along with the full sized curler and you'll have the lashes you've always dreamed of.

Review: Bobbi Brown Beach Sandbar Soap/Friday FIx

Bobbi Brown's Beach Sandbar Soap ($16.) This is not to be confused with the average bar of soap. (Which is why I like to keep it in its very own soap dish, hidden-- away from my fiance-- and from light and water.) Call me crazy, but I'm trying to get the most of this little gem. I save it for special occasions and days that I need an extra little pick-me-up.
It's a tiny slice of the beach. It captures the freshness and crispness of the air at the beach, and the salt water mixed with sand. Perfect for the days that I wish I was at the beach, but am in an office instead. One of my favorite scents, one of my favorite products.

Review: Say Yes to Carrots Lip Butter

The Yes To Carrots - C Me Smile Lip Butter ($3.69)- These 95% organic lip butters contain carrot, orange, pumpkin, melon extracts, coconut oil, olive fruit oil, jojoba seed and sunflower seeds, sunflower, vitamin e, beeswax and shea butter. Available in Berry, Carrot, Melon and Mint.

Yes to Carrots has a good track record with me. I really like the face mask and the shampoo- I love the scent that it leaves in my hair as it dries. OH don't forget the body butter. It's a thick cream that you have to use some muscle to rub it in. (I especially like for arms, hands, legs and feet). The results are non greasy and totally moisturized. I keep it by my bed so I can do it before I go to sleep. When I wake up I don't need any lotion.

The lip balm (carrot) is thin and smells kinda weird and acidic, but I guess it could be what a carrot smells like, I don't really know. I layered it on before bed and when I woke up my lips felt more sensitive, but not dry. It's not my favorite, but I'm not going to throw it out either. I'll keep it- somewhere. But I personally like a thicker balm. Have you tried it? Do you like it?

Review: Essie Nail Polish - Blushing Bride

*New - Essie Bridal Collection '08 The right dress, the perfect rings, and the dreamiest groom make every bride beautiful. Leave it to Essie to make every other woman at the wedding look like an angel as well, with six shades as subtle as a sigh. This exciting new Bridal Collection will be advertised in trade publications and the following consumer magazines: Allure, Cosmopolitan, Glamour and InStyle.

Essie's Blushing Bride ($7) is described as barely flushed with pink and a bit of golden warmth. I was excited to try it. I was highly disappointed when after 3 layers it still didn't look like there was anything on my nails. I mean it looks shiny, but clear. I usually love Essie nail polishes. Sugar Daddy and Ballerina Pink are faves. But this one sucks. A lot.

New Collection: MAC - Cool Heat

Some looks are too hot for summer to handle but not Cool Heat. Sweltering corals, chill-out blues, complemented by Turquatic and its warm new sister shade, Turquatic Heat, create this season's coolest - and steamiest - beauty paradox.

-Slimshine Lipstick ($14.50)- A new Lipstick combining creamy emolliency with a unique sheer colour pay-off. Finishes include cream, sparkling pearl and metallic. Provides the shine and moisturizing comfort of a gloss but with a smooth, non-sticky finish. Distinctive on and off. Comes packaged in its own stylish extra-long lipstick case.
-Tropic Glow- Blue pink with silver pearl (frost)*
-By Degrees- Neutral brown pink (frost)*
-High 90's- Clean pink orange (frost)*
-Swelter- Sheer clean red (frost)*
-Gentle Simmer- Light clean yellow pink with white pearl (frost)

-
Eye Shadow ($14)
-Solar White- Frosty muted white gold (frost)*
-Gulf Stream- Frosty mid-tone blue green with green pearl (frost)*
-Blue Flame- Dirty metallic navy blue (veluxe pearl)*
-Warming Trend- Frosty light taupe (veluxe pearl)*
-Cool Heat- Frosty teal with multidimensional pearl (frost)*
-Warm Chill- Frosty seafoam green with gold pearl (frost)
-Climate Blue- Mid-tone violet blue with pink pearl (velvet)

-Creations Hue: Turquatic ($22.50) -Crisp and energizing! A splash of clear, sparkling mineral water brought to a chill through an infusion of fresh lotus leaves and Corsican cedrat, then finished with a warm blend of anemone, orris and blue cedar.

-Creations Hue: Turquatic Heat* ($22.50) Like its sister fragrance, refreshing to the senses but infused with a sultry Mediterranean allure throughout its middle-notes. The first splash aqua-vescent, as sun-touched cedrat, mineral water and lotus flower explode on the skin. Heat and passion follow as opulent orris, jasmine and tiare soul fuse to create a blend that’s modern, feminine, and ultra-sexy. The scent that lingers on the skin: an earthy afterglow of cedarwood teased by a heartfelt blend of white patchouli, amber and vanilla infusion.

Tag! You're it.

RULES:
* Post rules at the beginning of the post.
* Answer all the questions.
* Tag 6 people, and go to their blog and leave a comment to inform them that they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog.
* Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.

What were you doing ten years ago? Hm... Let's see... in 1998 I was probably finishing up my Freshman year in High School. I was a dork. My Dad still brought me to school every day, just for the quality time.

What are five things on your to-do list today?

1. Vacuum my entire apartment

2. Finish up my wedding guest list.

3. Practice my Stenography

4. Change the Kitty Litter.

5. Call my mom.

Snacks you enjoy? All different kinds... I'm a little partial to the Sweet variety, though. I like Candy and Ice Cream and Cookies and Cake and Pie and all those good things. My favorite snacks of the moment include dried fruit, fresh strawberries, Asian Rice Cracker Mix and Rosemary Olive Oil Triscuits.

Places you’ve lived? Baltimore, Maryland and the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

What are 5 things you would do if you were a billionaire?

1. Save Darfur (and other much less fortunate places).

2. Educate our youth. I think the saddest thing about kids today is their lack of interest in learning.

3. Um yeah, did you see that closet that Mr. Big had made for Carrie in the SATC Movie? Yeah. I'd fill that with Louboutin's, Manolo's and Jimmy Choo's.

4. Buy beautiful houses around the world and travel to them frequently.

5. Find the cure for cancer.

People you want to know more about?
OK, I'm tagging: Sarah at Beauty Banter, Erin at Make Her Up, Toya at The Life of a Ladybug, Jamie at The Beauty of Life, Vanessa at Nessasary Makeup and Kristen at Sugar Shock.

Makeup Lesson: Kim Kardashian

I can't say I necessarily understand Kim Kardashian's fame, but I also can't deny that she's got some sweet makeup. Actually so do her sisters, Khloe and Kourtney. Here's Kim's list of how she gets picture perfect.

  1. Cleans her face and moisturizes. Then smooths on Intuit 'Photo Shoot' Primer.
  2. Conceals under eyes and any redness with Cle de Peau Concealer Stick (2 shades) and MAC Concealer.
  3. Mixes foundations- Make Up Forever Liquid Foundation (3 colors) to find her perfect match and applies with a MAC Brush No. 180.
  4. Applies more MAC Select Moisture Cover Concealer under the eyes.
  5. Sets foundation with MAC Select Sheer Pressed Powder NC 30 and contours with MAC Powder NW 45.
  6. Brushes on MAC Blush in Gingerly.
  7. Dabs on MAC Paint Pot in Painterly for a base. Her favorite eye shadows are: Blacks: MAC Carbon, Grey: MAC Knight Divine and Print, Brown: Embark, MAC Pigment in Tan and Makeup Forever Pigments.
  8. Lines eyes with Stila Black Pencil Eye Liner.
  9. For the lashes she uses MAC Zoom and layers with Lancome's Hypnose, then uses a lash comb to separate.
  10. Kim likes nude lips to go with her smoky eyes. She uses MAC Lip Liner in Subculture and NARS Belle Du Jour Lipstick. She also likes MAC Lip Liner in Stripdown, MAC Lipstick in Angel, then tops it off with NARS Lip Gloss in Turkish Delight.

Collection: Daisy Marc Jacobs Pour Sephora/ Friday Fix

Are you addicted to Marc Jacobs in the same sick way I am? Yeah, didn't think so. Consider yourself lucky. I unfortunately have this terrible habit of being completely in love with (almost) anything he does. (I'm not the biggest fan of his ad campains... Victoria Beckham for MJ? Don't think so.) It was unsurprising when I swooned for Daisy. Here's a list of the golden beauties you could have only from Sephora, for a limited time.

1. Daisy Marc Jacobs Pour Sephora Treasure Beauty Case ($50)- Small gold case that opens to reveal divided sections to organize beauty faves and other essentials.

2. Daisy Marc Jacobs Pour Sephora Cushy Brush Set ($70)- 5 essential brushes in a pretty snap-shut case.

3. Daisy Marc Jacobs Pour Sephora Soap Trio Delight ($15)- 3 Daisy Scented soaps.

4. Daisy Marc Jacobs Pour Sephora Charming Candle Collection ($50)- A set of 5 Daisy scented candles.

5. Daisy Marc Jacobs Pour Sephora Pretty Pouch Trio ($38)- A Daisy Marc Jacobs Pour Sephora logo-embossed set of cosmetic bags.

6. Daisy Marc Jacobs Pour Sephora Luxe Vanity Case ($85)- A vanity case that holds makeup and more. Includes 2 drawers, 3 trays and 2 foldout pockets.

I am most intrigued by the candles and soap. Though, I will say, I wouldn't sneeze at the Vanity Case sitting atop my bedside table. Anything you want?

Face Candy Favorite: MAC Lola Devine + OPI Pink Ultamatum

Lately my favorite nail color combination has been 2 coats of MAC's Heatherette Lola Devine Polish ($10) topped with 1 coat of OPI's Pink Ultamatum ($7.50, a sheer pink with lots of pink sparkles). The sparkles help stick to the polish and that makes it stay on longer. I wore this without a top coat for like 2 weeks without hardly any wear.

Do you layer your nail polish? What is your favorite combination?

Review: Tarte - 24/7 Lip Sheer

Tarte's 24/7 Lip Sheer with SPF 15 ($14) is a budge-proof, moisturizing blend of Vitamin E, Mango and Cocoa Butter with a layer of protection with the SPF 15. On the Tarte website the tubes are purple, but on the Sephora website they are pink. My selection is pink and purple, but mainly purple. I really like the amount of color these provide. My favorites include Champagne Brunch, Summer Fling, Thursday and Friday. They don't smell or taste like anything really, but they do stay put on your lips if you layer on a couple coats. Great to carry around in your purse because they provide color, moisturization and SPF. My only complaint would be the $14 price tag and the fact that a couple of the caps won't stay on.

Face Candy Grade: B

Available in:
-Sunday (Sheer Salmon Pink)
-Monday (Sheer Red)
-Tuesday (Sheer Plum)
-Wednesday (Sheer Brown Red)
-Thursday (Sheer Rose)
-Friday (Sheer Berry)
-Saturday (Sheer Deep Red)
-Summer Fling (Sheer Peachy Pink)
-Tea Time (Deep Rose)
-Champagne Brunch (Sheer Nude)
-Nightcap (Sheer Lilac)
-Happy Hour (Sheer Coral)

Review: Benefit- Posietint

I was pretty excited to try this new Benefit Posietint ($28). I'm not the biggest fan of Benetint, it's too dark for me. Posietint is a bright pink with a thicker consistency than Benetint. I paint a pretty liberal coat to my lips (with the nailpolish like applicator) and then rub it in. A few dots on the apples of cheeks provide a surprisingly natural looking glow. It doesn't have the staying power on the lips that it does on the cheeks. So I'd mainly recommend it for cheeks. Overall, I give this a B- because I think $28 is a lot.

New: Issey Miyake Scents

Issey Miyake 'L'Eau d'Issey Reflections in a Drop' Eau de Toilette ($64)- Reminiscent of the instant a droplet of water falls from a flower’s petal, this limited edition encapsulates a fleeting moment of pure nature. The top note, an original green accord, mingles with the delicious freshness of mandarin orange zest to add sparkle to the aquatic floral theme as it gently blends with the pastel woody trail.

Issey Miyake 'L'Eau d'Issey- Summer' Fragrance ($60)-
Inspired by the freshness and purity of water, The L'Eau d’Issey Summer fragrance is a sparkling, luminous and modern fragrance with a freshness in the top notes. Enclosed in a beautifully decorated bottle adorned with running waterfalls, the fragrance captures the essence of the season.

I really can't decide between the two, I think I'll have to go and sniff 'em out to be sure. Have you tried one of these? Please let me know!

New Collection + Review: Bobbi Brown - Bronzed Pink

Bobbi Brown's Summer collection, Bronzed Pink, features warm, sunny makeup shades for every complexion. Here's what's new:

Tinted Lip Balm ($18)- This unique, award-winning formula offers deep moisturization and sheer color that lasts longer than most. Tinted Lip Balm offers finger-free and mess-free application.
-Bronzed Pink -Desert Bronze -Golden Pink

Lip Balm (limited edition, $18)- Inspired by Bobbi's friendship with baseball legend Yogi Berra. This clear lip balm comforts and moisturizes lips and offers the convenience of a swivel-up stick. A combination of Petrolatum, Candelilla Wax and Beeswax forms a barrier that holds moisture to the skin, while natural oils condition the skin to improve the look and feel of lips.

Metallic Eye Shadow (limited edition, $20)- Bobbi's newest eye shadow is a high-shimmer formula with a soft and creamy feel. Applies smoothly and evenly and stays crease free for long-lasting wear. These new shades evoke the casual style and attitude of summer.
-Bronzed Pink -Penny

I tried the Bronzed Pink Lip Balm and the two new eye shadows. The lip balm is very shimmery, there's glitter in it, but it's not overly chunky and still looks natural. Provides moisturizing benefits but does better as a lip color IMO. $18 is a little steep for a lip balm to me, but who can resist the sleek, metal tube? I do sort of want to go and buy multiples and then line them all up in my drawer. Woah... That's a little freaky.

Anyway, onto the eye shadows. These are great for the beach bag. In a pinch you could bronze your eyes and cheeks. Penny is a golden copper tone that provides shimmer and shine, great with a tan. Bronzed Pink is very pretty. It's similar to MAC's Neutral pink, but with more shimmer. So, overall, it's a pretty sweet collection. Bobbi Brown knows how to do... everything.

Review: Boots No.7 Quick Thinking 4 in 1 Wipes

I was in Target when I spotted these Boots No. 7 4 in 1 Quick Thinking Wipes ($6.99). They are gentle, fragrance free wipes that remove impurities, tone and moisturize the skin, all while taking off water-proof eye make-up! Vitamin pro-B5 plus extracts of witch hazel and fennel help cleanse pores, moisturize and leave your skin feeling soft, smooth and clean.
I don't absolutely hate washing my face at nighttime, but it's not something I particularly look forward to either. It kind of depends on my mood. Since purchasing these, I find myself reaching for them nightly. It doesn't matter if you're only wearing a little tinted moisturizer, or an entire face full of shellacked clown paint, these little wipes will take it all off. 30 wipes/6.99 = 21 cents/wipe. Not bad. Not bad at all.

What's your favorite brand of Face Wipes? Is there one you keep going back to?

Review: The Somme Institute

The Somme Institute works in a 5-step regimen. A common ingredient in all of the steps is MDT5, which enables the products to work synergistically while releasing varied highly engineered vitamins in different sequences. MDT5 boosts collagen production, accelerates cell renewal, evens skin tone, and treats fine lines, sun damage, wrinkles, uneven skin, oily skin, dry skin, acne and rosacea. It goes like this:

Step 1: Nourishing Cleanser ($40)- Treatment and cleansing combined... A non-foaming cleanser that deep cleans skin without irritation or over-drying. Dissolves dirt and oil without clogging pores. Wet face with warm water and massage cleanser into skin. Rinse. I have to admit that I am not a fan of this cleanser. Hard to explain why, I don't like the consistency perhaps.

Step 2: Transport Pads ($58)- Exfoliate without abrasion... Soft cotton pads infused with MDT5 to exfoliate dead skin cells on skin's surface, unclog blocked pores and improve resiliency, hydration and cell renewal. Smooth pad over clean face, neck and upper chest.

Step 3: Serum ($82)- Amplifies collagen production, while visibly lightening discoloration... A potent, stabilized form of Vitamin C mixed with a concentration of MDT5 strengthens skin elasticity and smooths the appearance of fine lines. Apply several drops to face, neck and upper chest.

Step 4: A-Bomb ($70)- Recapture flawless, youthful skin... A lightweight cream containing MDT5 and high levels of Vitamins A & E to soften fine lines and wrinkles while targeting problem areas. Apply to face, neck and upper chest. This smells kinda like a key lime pie or something. Very light and absorbent.

Step 5: Double Defense ($48)- Hydration and protection... A lightweight, waterproof lotion with SPF 30+ contains MDT5 and Parasol 1789 to help protect skin from premature aging while locking in vital moisture. Apply to face, neck and upper chest. This is the stand out from this group for me. I LOVE it. I use it daily as my moisturizer + sunscreen. Highly recommended.

Eye Cream ($72)- A hydrating eye cream that brings back skin's elasticity, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, puffiness and dark circles.

Review: La Mer SPF 18 Fluid Tint and Powder

-La Mer- The SPF 18 Fluid Tint ($65)- A water-borne formula that absorbs instantly into the skin to provide broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Gemstones absorb light energy, transforming it into beneficial green light to enhance anti-oxidant activity. Photonic spheres redirect and diffuse light. Worn over Creme de la Mer, this acts as a generator, actually boosting efficacy. Brings a touch of color to the skin for a smooth, even finish. Available in Light, Medium and Dark. Medium is my match. This stuff isn't nearly as creamy as creme de la mer, but rather liquid-y if that makes any sense. I pat a little on any red spots on my face and am good to go for the day. If I had $65 to spend on a tinted moisturizer, this would be the one.

-La Mer- The Powder ($65)- A luxurious finishing powder so light it appears to float. Developed with symmetrically shaped, uniquely coated particles, it magnetically attracts to the skin for a perfect fit. Airspun seaborne particles create an imperceptible finish that leaves skin looking flawless. Translucent coverage. Available in Translucent, Creme, Neutral, Beige and Bronze. The container that this comes in is ridiculously large. It won't fit in your makeup bag unless you're the Jolly-Green-Giant. It's larger than a jar of body cream. I'm pretty sure you'll never run out either (because a little bit goes a long way). I tried Translucent. There's a bit of shimmer in this, but it basically disappears into your skin. Comes with a delightful little powder puff for application.
