An Explanation...

If you've noticed I've been MIA, I feel obligated to explain myself.
Here's what's been going on in my world:

-My freshly widowed mother needed to be moved from her old house to a new house by August 1, and she really did nothing in terms of packing or getting rid of things. We had no money for hiring movers, so my fiance and I and a group of friends basically did it all. If you know my mother, you know this is no easy task.

-A lady at my day job quit without any notice, on July 11- and we're still backed up. I process transcripts with one other girl and we've been struggling to get these numerous transcripts out. We've been staying late and even working on weekends while we try and train another person.

-I'm getting married on September 13, which is getting closer and closer. I'm pretty sure that every weekend in August is booked up with wedding events. I still feel like I've got a million loose ends to tie up. Is it super sad to say that I may be all wedding'd out all ready?

Whew, so anyway, I'm a little strung out. One thing to look forward to is my makeup session this weekend with Lianne from The Makeup Girl. She is doing my bridesmaid's (and possibly my) makeup. Very exciting. Can't wait to see what she has in store. I'll be sure to post the pictures. :)

Review: Tarte- Lips Ahoy

I'm surprised it has taken me so long to write about this cute little kit from Tarte. The Lips Ahoy Kit ($30) contains 4 double-ended t5 super fruit infused lip glosses with a water resistant formula in an adorable golden striped nautical pouch. My favorite is Annie and Sam. They smell and taste yummy, plus they're tiny enough to fit in your pocket. I also love the cute little pouch it comes in, it's just the right size to fit a Bobbi Brown palette inside.

Review: NARS Monoi Body Glow II

NARS Monoi Body Glow II ($59)- is a luxurious multi-purpose body oil that smells sweet and a little bit exotic. It's made by soaking a Tiare flower (Tahitian gardenia) in refined coconut extract for 10 days. Each bottle contains the original Tiare flower. You have to love the sleek glass bottle. I like to pour a tiny bit into my hands, after a shower, and smooth a coat of it over my whole body. The surprisingly lightweight formula will sink in quickly and leaves a soft lingering scent. There are only a limited few products that are "beach-worthy" to me, and this is one of them.

Face Candy Grade: A- (because it's pricey)

Review: Alice Cosmetics

"To those of you who are new to mineral makeup, and to those who may be looking for a better product, welcome to Alice Cosmetics. We offer a line of feather-light mineral makeup formulations that lend a beautiful, healthy glow to your complexion—with no sticky or chalky feel and none of the questionable ingredients found in so many other brands. Our mineral makeup is water-resistant and nonreactive, and thus safe for post-laser treatments and acne."

Alice Cosmetics offers a number of mineral foundations, concealers, eyeshadows, etc. In addition to their smooth formulations, they offer some neat specialty products such as the Buff Palette, the Eye Shadow Guard and the Mini Miracle Cloth. They also have a sample program, where for $2.50 each, you can test as many colors as you'd like. The foundation provided sheer, semi-matte coverage and the blush added a pretty flush to the cheeks. Similar to other mineral makeup brands, if you're interested in reasonably priced mineral makeup, give this brand a shot.

Review: Face Candy Favorite- CLEAN Perfume

The Original Clean Eau de Parfum ($76) is a fragrance option for those who do not like to smell like a particular perfume, but rather prefer that just-out-of-the-shower fresh smell. CLEAN combines fragrance notes of Litsea Cubeba, Orange, Sweet Lime, Pink Grapefruit, Passion Lily, Rose Geranium and White Musk. Also available in a 1 oz. travel size ($36.)

Warm Cotton Eau de Parfum ($76) So pure, so fresh, it captures the feeling of a fluffy, warm towel just pulled from the dryer or slipping into your favorite T-shirt line-dried in the summer sun. CLEAN Warm Cotton wraps you in notes of citrus, lilac and jasmine over a subtle but oh-so-sexy blend of amber and musk. A fresh, comforting, just-laundered scent. Also available in a 1 oz. travel size ($36.)

Shower Fresh Eau de Parfum ($76)
This uplifting CLEAN scent opens with crisp, citrus top notes of Lemon, Mandarin, And Orange. The heart of the fragrance is faintly floral, hinting at sweetness with notes of Lily of the Valley, Orange Blossom, and Jasmine. The drydown is an understated musk and sheer woods base. Not heavy, overwhelming or pretentious, Shower Fresh Perfume is simply sweet and subtly sexy; a revolutionary aroma that leaves one feeling "shower-fresh" from sun up to sun down. Also available in a 1 oz. travel size ($36) and at Sephora, a .34 oz. roller ball ($22)- perfect for the purse.

I've never quite been a "perfume person." I like the way some smell, but I hate anything too overpowering. That's why I was so excited when I got to sample these babies. They smell pure and simple, just like soap (only better than your typical Irish Spring.) Over the past couple weeks, I've been rotating them daily to see which one I like the most. And of these 3, I think my favorite would be Shower Fresh. It's light, fresh, watery- and seriously, I think you could spray yourself with it 50 times and still not be over-doing it. All of the scents are delightful, but since there are so many, I'd definitely recommend going into one of the stores and testing them all.

Side Note: My Fiance was sitting next to me when the fragrances first arrived. He asked me, as I sprayed each box with its corresponding scent, "What's the deal with this smelly shit?" After I told him it was a whole line based on the smell of soap, he sniffed all 3 of them again, and said, "Hm... That's actually not a bad idea. I like them... all. Tell your blog that it's got my seal of approval." So there you have it. Kyle tested, fiance approved.

Review: Redpoint Cosmetics

Redpoint is more than makeup. It’s a revolutionary line of color cosmetics infused with breakthrough anti-aging and skin transforming complexes, to make you look and feel better than you ever have.
At first glance, you’ll love Redpoint’s sexy red packaging and gorgeous colors. As an added luxury, every product contains highly specialized ingredients, that work behind the scenes to give you a youthful, revitalized glow!
What’s our secret? Previously, it wasn’t possible to incorporate active complexes into color cosmetics. Now, after years of development, our scientists have discovered new Chromactive Technology – allowing us to take makeup performance to a completely new level.

-Airbrush Effects Blushwhip ($28)- A sheer, creme-gel blush that hydrates and firms. Available in Vida (rosy-pink) and Glow (peachy-pink). This is a popular product among beauty bloggers. It's more liquidy than a cream, but creamier than a tint. A tiny dot of it on apples of cheeks prodives a natural looking glow. I used Glow on myself and my (caucasian) mother. It's shimmery and long wearing. I just wish the container was a little smaller. It takes up a lot of room in my makeup arsenal. (More on makeup storage later! Stay tuned.)

-MegaLash Mascara ($22)- Dramatically increase your lash volume and length by up to 72% after just 2 applications. Contains antioxidant vitamins and Redpoint's own special blend of special polymers for a blacker-black color with an age-defying glossy finish. A participant study shows:
382% average increase in lash volume (width and length) after just one application.
727% average increase in lash volume (width and length) after just 2 applications.
This was okay, a typical mascara to me, but it did thicken up my lashes.

-Age Minimizer Line Filler ($38)- More than just a primer, this stuff retexturizes and moisturizes skin while softening the appearance of lines, wrinkles and pores. It's so hydrating, you may even want to skip your moisturizer. My mom tried this one out for me, it plumps up your skin, creating a smoother surface.

FACE CANDY FAVE:
- NOC-Out Cover-Up Compact ($38)- This trio of concealers is designed to do a number of tasks. Red Guard (yellow) combats the appearances of facial dulness, Spot Cover (salmon) reduces the look of age spots, freckles, bruises and veins, and Eye Disguise (beige) helps conceal dark circles and crows feet. Perfect for use under or over foundation. This is one of my favorite products, EVER. It's awesome. This trio works wonders on pretty much everyone. It skins into your skin so you can't even tell it was there.

-Transformative Dual Foundation ($42)- Get full coverage that feels weightless. Two shades of Liquacreme foundation meld together or can be used to highlight, conceal and contour certain areas of the face. Elastimide Amino AC, a proven peptide blend and light diffusing pigments fill in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Available in Light, Medium and Dark. I applied this to my Mom, the difference was incredible. It lightened and brightened her entire face.

Review: Pop Beauty Lip Lust

(Left to right: No. 1 Naughty Red, No. 3 Dewy Toffee, No. 2 Flirty Fuschia and No. 4 Petal Pink.)

Pop Beauty Lip Lust ($13) - What it is:

-Dewy sheer lipstick to add a POP of colour.

-Super hydrating with lip moisturizing ingredients added.

-Silky smooth formula feels weightless on lips.

-Infused with natural food flavorings for yummy taste.

-Gentle formula perfect for dry sensitive lips.

-Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid nourish lips and provides hydration.

I tried No. 3 Dewy Toffee. It is a lovely nude color that is actually more peachy in the tube than it appears in the picture. I love the mini aqua tube with the pretty purple flowers on it. It's great for the purse, because it takes up minimal space. I like this color for a nude lip that doesn't wash you out. My personal preference is to put on about 3 or 4 layers and then top it with a lighter colored gloss for extra staying power. I'm not sure where exactly the "natural food flavorings" were in this, because mine still tastes rather lipstick-y.

Reluctant MAC Purchases

I'd first like to start out by saying: I am not in the habit of putting on a full face of makeup to go try on and purchase NEW makeup. Doesn't make sense to me. I like to go to the cosmetic counters bare faced, so that I can actually see my skin. I completely understand that without my makeup, I look like dog-food to SA's.

I strolled into my local MAC store, one afternoon, Friends & Family coupon in hand, to exchange a Tendertone that I had purchased online (in hopes of avoiding this type of situation.) I was immediately approached by "James," a 20-something drag queen SA. "Let me show you our new collections," he insisted, pulling me to the Neo Sci-Fi, Tendertones and Cool Heat displays. I smiled politely, thinking, "All ready seen it, all ready have it" but I looked along anyway and pretended I cared.

I love makeup. And I love makeup stores. But I almost always dislike the people selling it to me. I wish I could look and experiment on my own (without any interruption or annoying sales pitch) but I'm almost always pressured into purchasing something I don't need or want. So, anyway, I threw "James" a bone and let him put some foundation on me, then humored him in putting eyeshadow on me. He used a wide selection of shadows along with a fluidline and mascara, then went over each, asking me if I wanted it. They really don't believe you when you say, "I have that." (They must think it's some sort of exaggeration or lie, when in reality, it's the truth.)

Anyway, there was one thing that "James" and I agreed on. It was that eye concealer should be the same color as your skin, not lighter. I don't have very dark circles under my eyes, so this is adequate coverage, plus as an Korean girl, I always need to dot some concealer at the lower outer corners of my eyes. He chose MAC Studio Finish Concealer SPF 35 - NW25 ($15.50.) This covers it perfectly, and also covers redness around the nose.

For foundation he used MAC Mineralize Satinfinish SPF 15 Foundation - NW30 ($28.) When I got it home, I thought it was too light, but somehow when its blended in it looks right. It provides a smooth, luminous, satin finish. I use Tarte's Smooth Operator Primer beforehand and it stays on most of the day.

I wasn't a fan of "James'" eye shadow application, but he did a pretty good job blending everything together with the MAC 222 Tapered Blending Brush ($30) and using the windshield-wiper method. It's great for blending. So in the end, I thought he had a kind of crappy attitude, but I did walk away with some stuff I actually like.

More Bobbi Brown Mauve

I got to try some of the new Bobbi Brown goods recently. Here's what I thought of the new things I'd never tried before.

1. I'd only ever tested the Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($19) I used Bobbi's Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush ($22) to paint the gorgeous bronze and gold-laden Black Mauve Long-Wearing Gel Eyeliner ($19) along my top lash line and flipped it up at the corner. I usually use MAC Fludline because it lasts forever, but this one gave it a run for its money. Plus it comes in quite a variety of shades. This color is so pretty, I definitely recommend it along with the brush.
Face Candy Grade: A+ on both.

2. The Heather Mauve Lip Color ($22) is a creamy, semi-matte mauve. It looks on me the way it looks on the model. It's a little lighter than the naturally darker pink of my lips. When paired with the colors in the palette, it really is a great combination. It complements the colors beautifully. I actually don't think I'd wear it without wearing the palette colors because it would wash me out and it's not really a color I would have chosen, but what an awesome surprise. Don't you love that? When you think something will look horrid on you but when you try it on, it looks good?
Face Candy Grade: A

3. The Mauve Lip Gloss ($19) is a slightly vanilla scented, thick and heavy gloss. The color is pretty, just a little darker than my natural lip color. Decent staying power. Nice, but the tube is kind of small for $20.
Face Candy Grade: B

4. I was pretty much peeing myself just thinking about the Mauve Face Palette ($55), and was sooo happy after I did. (Try it, not pee myself, lol.) I wasn't very excited about the BB Nude Palette, so I was a little skeptical, but this one is really fantastic. One of the best parts is that it would look good on everybody. I adore the Vintage and Chocolate Mauve Eye Shadows and Mauve Blush. Again, the overall look is sophisticated and pretty. I showed it to my mom, who said, "Hm... Mauve, these are all my colors!" I love my Mommy, so while I just can't bear to part with mine, I'll buy her one of her own.

Face Candy Grade: A+

Overall, this collection pretty much rocked my world. I think a Nail Polish would have been a nice touch, but whatever. I'm DYING to try the Black Pearl Lip Gloss now, it looks fab. Have you tried anything from this collection? What did you think?
