Review: Sephora Brand Face Wipes

Sephora Brand FACE 25 Makeup Removing Wipes ($10)- 25 soft facial cleansing cloths saturated with FACE Fluid Makeup Remover. The cloths are made of soft honeycombed fabric and the fluid contains Vitamin E, shea butter and Pro-Vitamin B5. These come out to be 40 cents/wipe, which really isn't so bad. They remove foundation, waterproof eyeliner and waterproof mascara without leaving an oily film, like some do. Skin feels refreshed and I don't even use moisturizer after.

Review: Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Palette

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eye Palette ($55, Nordstrom exclusive)- This palette is tailor-made for anyone who wants eye makeup that’s long-wearing and smudge-resistant. Features new and popular shades of best-selling Long-Wear Cream Shadow, a soft, velvety formula that doesn’t crease, and Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, a gel-based formula that can be used to create subtle to dramatic looks. Comes in a protective, airtight palette.
  • Moon Rock Palette includes Gold Drop Long-Wear Cream Shadow, Mineral Dust Long-Wear Cream Shadow, Espresso Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, Black Topaz Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner.
  • Night Sky Palette includes Rockstar Long-Wear Cream Shadow, Ocean Storm Long-Wear Cream Shadow, Black Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, Thunder Storm Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner.
I was really excited about this set. But, when I got it, I discovered that I didn't like Gold Drop or Mineral Dust. The glitter was too chunky and the formula didn't apply evenly and didn't seem all that creamy. I really liked the 2 gel eyeliners, but I wasn't going to keep it just because I liked half of it. So, back it went. I do have to say, I think it would be awesome if BB made it so you could mix and match gel liners with long-wear cream shadows. I'd be all over that.

Bridal Beauty - My Wedding Day Makeup

First of all, I apologize for the lack of posts. Getting hitched takes a lot more energy and time than I ever expected. Things should be back to normal- soon. For now, here's a list of the products I used on the big day. I don't have a picture yet, but will post when I get it.

I stayed in a hotel and took a shower using these things:
-Prescriptives- Instant Gratification
-MAC- Volcanic Ash Exfoliator on my entire body
-Nivea- Soft Cream on entire body
-John Varvatos for Women Eau de Toilette

Then I went over the the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa, which was nextdoor to my hotel. I had a the Warm Cream (french) Manicure and the Express Pedicure using a new OPI for Sephora nail polish in Dear Diary (pale pink.) Everything at the spa is luxurious and expensive. They use Zoya nail polishes, which I found interesting, and offer a large variety of spa and massage services.

Face:
-La Mer- Creme de la Mer
-Tarte- Clean Slate Face Primer
-MAC- Mineralize Satinfinish SPF 15 Foundation in NC30 mixed with
-Make Up For Ever- High Definition Foundation in 128
-Make Up For Ever- High Definition Powder
-MAC- Fix+

Eyes:
-Urban Decay- Primer Potion
-MAC- Paint Pot in Soft Ochre
-MAC- Eye Shadow in Femme-Fi
-Bobbi Brown- Mauve Face Palette (2 darker colors)

Bridal Beauty- Make Up For Ever HD

I was at my new, local Sephora and I stopped by the Make Up For Ever aisle. I was shopping before the wedding, so I decided to pick some new things to try.

Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation ($40)- An oil-free medium-to-full-coverage foundation that covers imperfections while remaining invisible. Available in 25 shades. I decided to try some on and walk around for a while to see if I liked it. Well, I couldn't stop checking myself out. This stuff is AWESOME. It really makes it look like your skin- but better. Imperceptible coverage. I happily doled out the $40.

Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder ($30)- A colorless finishing powder that sets foundation and mattifies skin without changing its natural contours. 100% mineral silica powder. Completely talc free. I'd heard raves about this powder, so I decided to give it a try. The only way it could have been better was if I had the HD Kabuki Brush- the bristles are soo soft, I want it! Anyway, it's completely translucent and light-weight. A light dusting is all you need for matte- not dry- skin.

Bridal Beauty - Review: Clinique

I love Clinique. As a girl, it was one of the very first brands I noticed. I think the fact that its 100% fragrance free and allergy tested, plus the prices are and always have been rather reasonable.

-Long Last Glosswear SPF 15 ($14)- This lip gloss claims to provide 8 hours of lasting shine. I personally have not experienced this sort of wear. I'd say it lasts about as long as any other gloss (not long enough) about an hour or a little more. Otherwise, the texture is medium- kind of like Stila's Lip Glaze. Guavagold is a sheer pale pink with a gold sheen. The color is AWESOME. It warms up my skin and I like that the gold is so subtle.
Face Candy Grade: B+

-Almost Powder Makeup SPF 15 ($22.50)- A long-wear, lightweight powder full of antioxidants and an SPF 15. Neutral was the right color for me. I constantly carry this around with me for quick touch-ups. The powder covers like a foundation, evening skin and eliminating oil.
Face Candy Grade: A+

-Quick Eyes Cream Shadow ($15)- A creamy, velvety, crease-proof eye shadow that claims to last up to 10 hours. Apply a lot or a little. I like to use 5 thick dots across the middle of my lid and then sweep the applicator along the bottom and blend with my finger. Muffin is a shimmering taupe. All of the colors look beautiful (I kind of want them all.) Perfect for on the go application. I find if I use Urban Decay Primer Potion, it does last about 8 hours with minimal fading.

Bridal Beauty - Review: Thi Cosmetics

Taylor Pham, of Thi Cosmetics, grew up in a salon and was inundated with images of tall modes and actresses we can never emulate. Her goal is to help Asian women recognize their distinctive beauty and to encourage them to feel sexy and beautiful in their own skin. She believes "What makes you different is what makes you beautiful."

That's quite refreshing to hear. As a girl, I stared at pictures of Nikki Taylor, Christy Turlington, supermodels with "legs down to there." As a Korean girl, I have short little legs, a flat nose, a round face and monolids. I used to hate those characteristics, but over the years, I've learned to deal with it. Though my legs are short, they are shapely. I have a flat nose, but I've seen actual nose-jobs (Thanks Discovery Channel Health!) and it's disgusting. I don't want anyone to break my nose. I don't have creases in my eyes, but I've developed other ways to do my eye makeup. Most of all, being beautiful is being confident in your skin. There's no point in comparing yourself to people you could never be. Flaunt what you've got and be proud.

Anyway, I tried the Quinn Lipstick ($19, pictured above on the right.) It claims to be not too orange, not too pink. I used my finger to gently smear a circle on the surface of the pan. A thin coat provides a berry tint. Multiple coats will make your lips as dark as the lady's below. It's a delightful cheek stain also. I just don't know if I'd call it red. It's more burgundy or deep berry to me. The girl here is definitely wearing Quinn with a layer of gloss. Her lips look dark and juicy.

Face Candy Grade: A

Here are some of Taylor's bridal tips for Asian women:

  1. Use Primer and a makeup fixer to set your makeup. Avoid creams which are likely to smear.
  2. A silicone based cream foundation covers better than liquid and lasts eight hours. Use a kleenex to lightly press into the foundation before you powder. This removes oil, making it last longer.
  3. If you have oily skin, before foundation apply an oil control lotion to the T-zone. Use blotting papers instead of powder to touch up.
  4. For timeless but natural and noticeable makeup, try pinks, peaches, taupes and soft greys.
  5. False eyelashes enhance the eyes without much shadow.
  6. To make eye shadow last throughout the day, use a base cream eye shadow.
  7. Highlight features with a soft shimmer shadow on the brow bone and inner corners of eyes and above cheekbones.
  8. Use Evian spray to mist the face throughout the day to keep the skin looking and feeling fresh.
  9. To make lipstick last all day use foundation or concealer before applying the color.
  10. For dramatic evening eyes, go smoky. Smoke the rims of the eyes and soften it with a lighter color. Lip gloss and mascara.
I'm dying to try the eyelashes. They look AWESOME.

Bridal Beauty - 3 Custom Color Specialists Marry Me

This week is Bridal Beauty Week at Face Candy. Because I'm getting married on Saturday!!! (And because I am not going to Fashion Week.) Each day I will showcase and review a bridal beauty product and give you tips for how to do your makeup for the big day. Friday, I will give you a list of what I'm using on myself.
Marry Me Lip and Cheek Stain in Warm ($20.50)- A unique 2 in 1 formula enriched with a color sealer and high level of stain. I LOVE stains, especially for my lips, when it gives me that I just ate a popsicle look. However, not all stains are created equal. Liquid stains are harder to work with and blend, plus they tend to dry out the lips. I've tried many and have not found one worthy of makeup-bag status. This one was created by the Co-Founder and Creative Director of 3 Custom Color Specialists, Trae Bodge, when she began to envision her own bridal makeup look. I love the formula of 3 CC lip and cheek stains. They're creamy and easy to apply and build color. This stain is quite similar to the Ski Bunny stain, in that it's surprisingly natural looking and it won't dry out your lips. The slight gloss finish will impart a healthy looking flush to cheeks and make your skin appear fresh and dewy. A new makeup-bag staple. The Marry Me Lip and Cheek Stains and Glosses come in Warm and Cool tones. Buy them separately or in a trio ($46.50.)

3 Custom Color Specialists Bridal Makeup Tips:
Always have your hair done first, and then your makeup, and then get dressed. Also, while getting hair and makeup done, wear a robe or shirt that opens in the front, to minimize the number of garments being pulled over your head.

1. Face- Begin by creating a smooth, flawless canvas. Cleanse the skin and moisturize well. Once your moisturizer has had a chance to absorb, begin to Conceal.

Conceal - apply our Creme Concealer where you need it. Start in the center of the face and blend outward with a sponge. With the Concealer Brush, apply around the eyes, nose and lips. Always place the brush first where you need it most and blend outward.

Set - with our soft face powder puff, press face powder into the skin to set the concealer. If you want face powder with coverage, try our #'s 1-5. No coverage, use our Translucent Powder.

2. Eyes- Base shade - should be applied all over the eye with the All-Over Blending Brush. Liner Shade - Wet the Pointed Eye Liner Brush and apply your Liner shade along the upper lash line. Keep any lining under the eye to a minimum. Allow to dry. ** pencil liner could also be used here

Crease Shade - Buff out the liner (to soften it) with the Countour brush and apply the same shade (dry) in the outer third of the crease.

Highlight - Use the Detail Brush to dust the Highlihgting Shade on the brow bone on the highest point of the eye lid.

Line - Swipe Light or Dark Clarifier pencil on the inner rim of the eye to brighten and widen.

Lashes - Last step - mascara. Be sure to use waterproof!

3. Cheeks- Highlight - with a fluffy brush, dust your high-lighting Eye Shadow shade to the upper cheek bone for definition and shine.

Color - Apply Marry Me Lip & Cheek Stain (in Cool or Warm) with the fingers. Focus on the apples and blend back towards the ears.

Contour - to create the illusion of a more prominnent cheek bone, apply a small amount of Cool or Warm Bronzer below the cheek bone. This can be used under the jaw line as well.

Glow - If you are feeling a little pale - with our face powder brush, generously dust our Bronzing Powder over the face, neck and decollete for a natural , healthy look.

4. Brows- Brows should be well defined, but not too dark. Choose a brow powder the same shade as your hair or slightly lighter. Brush on lightly with Brow Brush or Spoolie Brush for more color. Use wet with Pointed Eye Liner Brush to fill in gaps, if necessary.

Apply clear brow gel to set the shape.

5. Lips- Line - Follow the natural lip line with Cool or Warm Pink to define and to form a barrier for the lip color. Avoid re-shaping unless absolutely necessary!

Color - Apply one coat of Lip & Cheek Stain - be sure to blend well with the lip liner. Blot. Apply another coat of lipstick and blot lightly. This will ensure a solid seal of your base lip color. Apply lip gloss and eapply for shine when necessary.

Review: 3 Custom Color Specialists - Light Brights

Light Brights Lipstick Collection ($18.50)- 4 sheer, juicy shades in a moisturizing balm.

Light Brights High Shine Lip Glosses ($18.50)- the same bright colors as the lipsticks with a heavy does of gloss.

Available in: Area (juicy, bright tangerine), Danceteria (flirty coral), Limelight (sweet, soft pinky peach) and Palladium (hot pink)

I tried both in Danceteria. The lipstick looks super bright in the metal tube, but it is really like a tinted lip balm, I love the way it glides on. It's sheer, but it adds a subtle tint to my pink lips. I bet Limelight is gorgeous, I might have to try that one next. The lipgloss is very thin and lightly pigmented. I couldn't really see any sort of color payoff.

Review: CARGO Cosmetics

CARGO Lip Gloss Duo ($20)- A jumbo tin containing 2 soft glosses. The formula includes Rosemary Extract, a powerful antioxidant that fights the damaging effects of free radicals and Vitamin E, which protects skin from damage caused by the sun and other environmental factors. These glosses are soft to the touch, I usually melt a tiny chunk of it onto my lips and it stays on for a couple hours. They're also highly pigmented. My only problem with it is I don't like to take it out with me if I'm with friends, because if they see me with it, they'll of course want to stick their fingers in for some too. And well, I love my friends, but I don't want to share this one. :)
Face Candy Grade: A

CARGO Blush ($24)- A sheer, blendable blush thats often used professionally on TV and film sets. The jumbo tin allows large brushes to pick up pigment evenly for better application. This comes in some bright colors, but they look so natural when applied with a big fluffy brush.
Face Candy Grade: A+
Contains:

  • Silica — An oil replacement that gives our blush a long wearing, silky, blendable and layerable texture for foolproof application every time.
  • Aloe Vera — Extracted from the aloe plant, Aloe Vera offers soothing hydration to the skin and is particularly good for sensitive skin.
  • Vitamin E — An effective anti oxidant and skin conditioner that helps to fight the damaging effects of free radicals and repair minor damage found on the surface of the skin.
CARGO EyeLighter in Gold ($17)- A dual ended shadow pen, one side matte gold shadow and one end shimmering gold shadow. Matte gold lifts the outer corners of eyes, under brows and on the lower lash line. Shimmering gold brightens the inner corners of eyes. I tried this and it's awesome. Perfect for your purse. I like it to look awake more than lining eyes with white pencil. I think that looks unnatural.

Review: L'Oreal Skin Genesis

-L'Oreal Daily Treatment Serum Concentrate (won Allure Magazine's Best of Beauty "Beauty Breakthrough" Award, $24)- One pump of this is more than enough. The clear serum absorbs quickly. I found that using it continuously made my skin a LOT smoother.

-L'Oreal Daily Moisturizer Oil Free Lotion (won Allure Magazine's Best of Beauty "Beauty Breakthrough" Award, $24) - A unique lightweight, oil-free hydrator that smooths skin's surface and evens tone for a more flawless complexion. I like the light rosy smell of it, it fades, but it's pleasant. The combination of the serum and lotion is not heavy in any way, in fact, it feels like you're not wearing anything. Both formulas contain Pro-Xylane and Hyaluronnic Acid. They absorb into your skin immediately and don't leave skin feeling sticky.

What they do:
-Builds strength deep within skin's surface.
-Reinforces skin's matrix to add fullness, improve elasticity and renew skin's evenness from within.
-Strengthens between skin's layers.
-Helps promote healthy collagen production to fortify skin's structure and support.
-Smooths the surface layer.
-Boosts cellular renewal to help erase fine lines and instantly hydrates for more even, light-reflective skin.

Face Candy Grade: Both B
