Happy Halloween! MAC Face Charts

Watch CBS Videos Online

Happy Halloween!

Do you have a costume? I don't, but I'm not really doing anything other than giving out candy and watching a scary movie. I'd love to hear what you're going to be in the comments section. Check out the video that the MAC PR people did on the Today Show. They looked awesome! The looks are Amphibian, Colour Spill and Skullmeister.

Here are the color charts for their makeup.

You can view instructions with color suggestions here.

I also found this one I thought was really cool on the MAC Cosmetics website. It's called Woody.
Enjoy!

Review: Olay Body Wash Plus Spa Exfoliating Ribbons

Olay Body Wash Plus Spa Exfoliating Ribbons ($5.29) - The first body wash to add an actual ribbon of seaweed extract and micro beads you can feel - the same ingredients used in many of today's top spas. The luxurious, fragrant lather swirls across your body, removing dry skin cells to reveal beautiful, velvety smooth skin. It's gentle enough for daily use.

I was skeptical at this Body Wash's moisturizing capabilities, but I was proven wrong. The dispensing hole in the cap is rather large, so it's easy to overload your little shower poof or whatever you use. Its sudsing ability is noteworthy. There's some tiny little blue exfoliating beads in the cream. The scent is ocean-y and not very strong, which I like. All in all, I have no complaints. The bottle is rather large, so for $5 and change, it's a pretty good deal. I'm personally someone who prefers sleeping an extra 5 minutes as opposed to moisturizing my entire body with lotion, so this definitely buys me a little extra sleep.

I saw the Beiges de Chanel E/S Quad and had to have it. It was my very first Chanel Quad, and it didn't disappoint. I was worried that the white shade would appear too chalky on my medium skin, but it didn't. All the shadows are soft and creamy and blend like a dream. My favorites however are the other 3. The pale gold shade looks lovely as a base. I use the medium brown/gold shade in my crease area and then use the dark brown shade as a liner color. It's a great quad to have because the colors are so versatile and classic. You really can't go wrong here. Though I used a gift card to buy this, I still think it was $ well spent. It's a luxury, but I love "basic" luxury items. This is something I'll use (almost) everyday. Perfect for work.

Comments For A Cure! This Weekend Only!

Hi Everyone! This weekend I am doing "comments for a cure," where for each comment made, I will donate $4 to the BCRF. The comment can say anything you want, but I would really like to have you mention how breast cancer has affected you or someone you know. Here's my story:

(Dad and I, circa 1989)

As some of you may or may not know, my father, Rollin Todd Kingsley (59 years old) passed away from breast cancer, this past April. When he was only 28, my mother found a lump in his breast. (We believe that the cancer began after he went to Vietnam, in the Air Force, and was heavily exposed to Agent Orange.) He had a mastectomy and for many years, he was seemingly fine. I was very lucky to grow up with him. Years later, when he decided to stop taking a drug (I forget the name right now) that was inhibiting the cancer, it did in fact spread throughout his body and eventually to his brain.

(Dad, Me and Mom at my 21st Birthday Dinner)

In early 2008, my mother, Pamela Pearce Kingsley (62 years old), doctors found a lump in her breast. She had a mastectomy also and seems to be fine now. As we all know, breast cancer affects MANY women around the world. The fact that breast cancer affects MEN needs to be spread. Especially men who were in Vietnam and exposed to Agent Orange. I encourage everyone to test themselves and the men around them. There will be an article about men with breast cancer in the Baltimore Examiner (I'm not sure what day) and my father will be highlighted.

Thank you all so much for reading and commenting for such a special cause that has affected us all.

Review: Yves Saint Laurent - Rouge Volupte Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick SPF 15

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick SPF 15 ($34) - A long-lasting, comfortable lipstick that transforms into a fluid veil of radiant color when it touches lips. Shades drench lips with densely pigmented color and a unique shine complex. Lips are visibly smooth, plumped and radiant with luminous, satin color.

I read Christine at Temptalia's raving review of this lipstick and had to try it. Yes, it was indeed the most money I've ever spent on a single tube of lipstick. I tried 9 Caress Pink (muted raspberry pink), which was much cooler than I expected it to be. I usually stick to warm shades, but I do think this color looked awesome when I was on my honeymoon and I was all tan. I will admit that the texture of this lipstick is amazing. Never seen before. It seems to melt onto the lips and you're left with a a slightly creamy, very thin layer of color. (Thin as in texture, not color intensity.) It FEELS like a gloss. I don't think the lasting power is very impressive, I reapply a lot. I also enjoy the fruity smell. I'm in love with the tube packaging itself. It's sleek, sophisticated and completely luxurious, plus there's a tiny mirror on the bottom for touch-ups. SO, all in all, I really, really did like the lipstick itself, but $35? I'd say $25 would be much more reasonable (though I still don't really believe in lipstick costing that much.) In this case I'd say it's probably a combination of packaging and brand name status that jacks the price up.

Review: Clinique Modern Matte

Defining Liner for Lips ($14)- Makes lips beautiful by definition. Modern precision pencil with built-in sharpener in the cap creates the look you want, anywhere. Creamy, non-feathering formula goes on smoothly, evenly, stays all day. Even helps lipstick stay in place. I have Sugared Fig, it's a a coppery pink that makes my lips a little bit lighter than they really are. It goes on smooth and creamy and I have to admit that I am smitten with the built in sharpener thing. Perfection.

Face Candy Grade: A+

Available in:
-Sugared Fig
-Nudey
-Berry Nude
-Red-y or Not
-Cider
-Plush Pink
-Pomegranate
-Soft Plum

Blushwear Cream Stick
($18.50)- Cream-to-powder blush stick glides on colour for a natural all-day glow. Blends easily with fingertips to desired intensity and coverage. Non-drying, oil free. I have Very Blush. I apply a dot to each cheek and blend it in. It's very pigmented and creamy. I don't even feel the need to apply powder over it for staying power.

Face Candy Grade: B

Available in:
-Glow Blush (nude)
-Peachy Blush (tawny)
-Rosy Blush (pink)
-Limited Very Blush (violet)
-Shy Blush (violet)

Colour Surge Eye Shadow Stay Matte ($14)- Our softest, smoothest, richest matte shadow creates elegant intensity in one stroke. Surprisingly lightweight, long-wearing. Ophthalmologist tested for even the most sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. I was drawn to Midnight. I thought it was kind of hard to get as much color as I wanted, but it's good for people who are new to a smoky eye. You can't really over-do it with Midnight. It's subtle.

Face Candy Grade: B

Available in:
-Midnight
-Chocolate Chip
-Sable
-French Vanilla
-Martini
-Midnight Plum
-Slate
-Dark Denim
-Stone Violet

High Impact Lip Colour SPF 15 ($14)-
High on colour, long on comfort. Dressed-up colour wears beautifully for 8 hours. And lips enjoy every minute. In 20 highly moisturizing shades that continually smooth, soften, comfort. Protect from UVA/UVB, too. Have it all.
Available in 20 different shades. I have Go Fig. It's a medium berry shade. Clinique lipstick is awesome. It's creamy and doesn't smell or taste weird, like some. I kind of forget it's there at all. Extra points for the sleek, silver banded tube.

Face Candy Grade: A

High Impact Mascara ($14)-
Kicks up the volume and length of each and every lash for a look that's lusher, plusher, bolder. Pure, deep colour only adds to the impact. Wear it once and you'll feel naked without it. When I was 13 I was so in love with the Naturally Glossy Mascara. This is thicker and much more "look at me" than Naturally Glossy. The thick brush makes it a little more difficult to get at the corner lashes, but wiggle it through the ones in the middle, and that's all you need. I personally found that it clumped after 2 coats, which I didn't like.

Face Candy Grade: C

Available in:
-Black/Brown

Pink Product: Bobbi Brown Pink Ribbon Collection

Bobbi Brown Pink Ribbon Collection ($40) - This limited-edition set features a Pink Glitter Lip Gloss and a Tulle Lip Color.

Bobbi Brown will donate $35,000 in connection with the North American sales of Pink Ribbon Collection to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Review: Anastasia Brow Pen and Brow Duality

I'd heard so much about the new Anastasia Brow Pen - Long Wearing Brow Tint ($21) that I simply had to try it. The pen has a soft, extremely pointy tip, which makes it easy to draw on individual hairs. I find the need to rub it in a bit, to make it look more natural. Unlike most brow pencils, the water-based liquid formula stays on all day. This is certainly a HG brow product for me. There is a universal shade, but I'm not quite confident that it would work on super pale blondes.

Anastasia's new product that will be available on October 23rd at Sephora, is called Brow Duality ($23.) This dual ended pencil features a matte highlighter on one end and a shimmer highlighter on the other. They are available in two color combinations.
-Pencil #1 - Matte Camille and Sand Shimmer (pink based)
-Pencil #2 - Matte Shell and Lace Shimmer (yellow based)
As an Asian gal, I prefer Pencil #2, because my skin is more yellow based. I like to use Shell to balance imperfections and conceal, then take Lace and highlight my brow bone and inner corners of eyes. A bit of blending, and you're ready to go.

To further reduce our eco-footprint, the fun and flirty compostable packaging is made of Polylactic Acid (PLA), a=2 0polymer made entirely from corn, a renewable and abundant resource. What’s more, PLA production emits less greenhouse gas than traditional plastics. Boxes are made from 100% post-consumer waste paperboard; and the mill supplying this paperboard manufactures under carbon-neutral conditions, using 100% renewable energy.

Hana Zalzal, Founder of CARGO Cosmetics shared, “For us, PlantLove has always been more than a product, it’s a movement. As Gandhi said, ‘Be the change you want to see in the world.’ We believe that small actions taken by large groups can change this world.”

The PlantLove™ Natural Origin Cosmetics Collection includes:

-PlantLove™ Loose Powder Foundation ($30) - Delivers the effect of loose powder and foundation in one convenient product. Talc-free and infused with natural and organic ingredients such as Jojoba Seed Oil and Olive Fruit Oil, it imparts lasting, healthy benefits and flawless, yet natural looking coverage. Suitable for all skin types. Available in five wearable shades.

-Natural Origin Pressed Powder ($30) - This silky, soft powder, infused with organic olive fruit extract, provides a flawless finish while still looking natural. Ideal for mid-day touch-ups. Available in two shades.

-100% Natural Origin Baked Illuminator ($28, above) - A stunning blend of blush, bronzer and highlighter in one, PlantLove™ 100% Natural Origin Baked Illuminator gives cheeks and body an all-over warmth and glow. Made with natural terracotta ingredients, Karanja Oil to heal and condition, Grape Seed Oil rich in nourishing antioxidants and Sunflower Seed Oil to combat dryness. The Illuminator promotes healthy, nourished skin while giving you a perfect flush. Available in three shades:

  • Earth – Gold, copper and bronze combination
  • Wind – Terracotta, champagne and bronze combination
  • Fire – Pink, pearl and bronze combination
I tried the Illuminator in Earth. This seems like the darkest of the 3 and for that reason, I use it more as a blush than an Illuminator. (When I think of illuminator, I think of subtle highlighter.) I've found that the key to this product is using a large, fluffy brush and very lightly dusting it over the surface of the powder. It is EASY to overdo it, so be gentle with application. The colors mix together to provide a healthy glow with a little bit of shimmer. I wouldn't necessarily wear it on a daily basis, but for night time and special occasions, go for it. It gets extra points in my book for being Green.

Face Candy Grade: B

-PlantLove™ 100% Natural Origin Bronzer ($28) - Gives a natural, easy-to-blend glow. Made with all natural terracotta ingredients and baked for eight hours, it provides a satin finish for a glowing, sun-kissed look, without unflattering shimmer. The universally flattering shade, perfect for all skin types, contains Karanja Oil, Argan Oil and Grape Seed Oil all help to improve the skin, from the inside out.

Review: Sundari Chamomile Eye Oil

Sundari Chamomile Eye Oil ($42) - Smoothes and replenishes delicate skin around eyes. Healing Chamomile Oil and Emollient Avocado Oil nourish and soften skin. Natural antioxidants, Vitamins A and E, nurture the skin and help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

In Clinical Studies:
-64% of users felt that their eyes looked smoother, had better texture and fewer lines and wrinkles.
-44% improvement in spacing of fine lines
-26% improvement in spacing of crows feet
-52% of users rated this product better than their current eye treatment product.

This tiny bottle of oil is surprisingly worth the $42. Apply a drop with your fingers over the outer eye area, but avoid the eyelids. The light-weight oil will disappear instantly into the skin. I use this at night and have been really pleased with the results. The eye area appears to be smoother and softer. I look less tired. It does nothing for dark circles, but it is perfect for the outer eye area.

Review: Luster 1 Hour White

I recently tried the Luster 1 Hour White At Home Tooth Whitening System ($39.99.) It puts the perfect tooth whitening experience into the palm of your hand. The dentist-invented system contains three components that work in conjunction to revitalize your smile in the comfort of your home. Independently Clinically Proven to be Safe and Effective.

I'll admit that I was skeptical at first. But I figured I don't have the money for expensive dental proceedures to whiten my teeth. I gave it a shot, while watching TV. Simply use the mouthwash, then brush the whitening gel onto teeth. Then you hold the light up to the teeth for 2 minutes, it has an automatic timer that turns it off when time's up. While it's a little annoying to have to hold the light up to your mouth, it's a small price to pay for actually whiter teeth without the sensitivity some people experience with dental strips. Neat concept. Whiter teeth in 1 hour. Would I lie to you? Go ahead, try it. You know you want to...

Review: Kimiko Lifting Puff Blush

The future of makeup has arrived: clinical skincare fused right into cosmetics. Kimiko Beauty indulges your skin in luxurious treatment with every application: lip tints that color and plump, concealers that treat and hide, powders that hydrate and firm, and eyeshadows that smooth and lift. Look younger and save time while giving your skin the treatment it deserves.

Lifting Puff Blush ($38)- This amazing powder blush lifts and enhances your skintone with Hydra-FirmaLift™ and Vitamin E. Lifting Puff Blush brightens your cheeks while giving you an uplifting skin treatment. Natural tones are buildable for that just right glow. A purse-friendly blush with flow - through puff applicator and mirror built into the cap for easy touch ups on-the-go! Wearable, portable, convenient. Who could ask for anything more?

Available in:
Golden Geisha - warm pink-bronze with shimmer
Plum Wine - berry-pink with warm shimmer
Cherry Blossom - golden peachy-pink with shimmer
Sweet Lychee - soft matte natural pink

I used Plum Wine, obviously you have to remove the clear plastic cover between the powder and puff to let the powder seep into it. (I'm a little slow sometimes, so it took me a few minutes to figure out why no powder was coming out, lol.) Dab the sponge onto your hand until you can see the color coming out. Pat it onto your cheeks and you've got a very natural looking blush. I like the small size and that it's got a mirror on the top for on-the-go application. Also, the treatment while acting as a cosmetic is a cool concept. All the products multi-task! The powder itself is light and can be layered for deeper color.

Kyle's Bridal Beauty

This is going to be a long post, so get ready.

My skin is normal mostly, so keep that in mind. I LOVE MAC's Volcanic Ash Exfoliator. Yes, it smells like shit, but it does the job. The exfoliating bits dissolve into a kind of soapy grey sludge. Instant Gratification's name speaks for itself. Nivea's Soft Cream is a light fluffy cream that disappear into your skin without leaving a greasy film.

Clean Slate makes your skin a silky smooth canvas for foundation. I used my fingers to mix MAC Mineralize Satinfinish NC30 with MUFE HD 128. Both provided enough coverage without being masklike. I tried the trick of using a tissue to sop up extra oil and then applied powder.

I chose to use Urban Decay's PP instead of Too Faced Shadow Insurance because I personally think that PP works much better. While it does provide some difficulty in blending, it still stays put. I layered the Soft Ochre Paint Pot with Femme Fi. I then used the medium shade of Bobbi Brown's Vintage (medium grey heather) half way up my lid. I used a smaller brush to apply Chocolate Mauve (deep chocolate plum) along my lash line and smoke it up. I wanted a really dark black to make my eyes stand out, so with a wet brush I used Dark Soul Pigment (charcoal black smoked with gold) on top of that.

I had actually never used individual eyelashes before, but I did and it was easy. I applied them along the outside corners only. Using a tiny Billy B. lining brush I went around the entire eye with Black Mauve Gel Eyeliner. A bit of Blinc Kiss Me Mascara and done.

I filled in my brows with the lighter side of Anastasia's Medium Ash Brow Powder and then added a little bit of the darker side to the middle.

Elizabeth Arden's Bronzing Brush is perfect for contouring the cheeks. I chose Senna's matte bronzer. A sheer dusting of Pearl Blossom Beauty Powder to the cheekbones. A layer of the Orgasm Multiple (for pigment and staying power) with a layer of MAC Shy Beauty.

A couple spritzes of MAC's Fix + and I felt beautiful and ready. I applied my lipstick and gloss in the car before I arrived at the site. It was like 85 degrees outside and humid as hell, so touching up was definitely necessary.

There are a lot of things I forgot to do- (use lip liner before lipstick, use a shimmery lotion, etc.) it's funny what you forget when your mind is somewhere else. I DO wish someone had told me to powder my nose during pictures, but oh well. It was a perfect, beautiful day that only could have been better if my Daddy was there.
