New Collection: MAC - Chill

MAC - Chill: Ice the competition. The temperature drops, predictability plummets, but a new beauty barometer sets the tone with light snowflake lips, twinkle shimmer shades with opalescent pearl.

Cool neutral eyes suddenly combust, then go up in smoke, with new Penultimate eye liner for the deepest velvet black. New 41 Lash with criss-cross design for a luxe, longer look. Two Reflects Glitter for a limited time, a hot new cool. Just chill.

Lipglass ($14.50)
-Icescape - Sheer pale pink with pink pearl
-Naked Frost - Sheer taupe with silver pearl
-Frozen Dream - Sheer cool mid-tone pink with pearl
-Snowscene - Sheer white with multi-dimensional pearl

Eye Shadow ($14.50)
-Arctic Grey - Frosted mid-tone grey
-Wintersky - Frosty neutral mid-tone pink
-Apres-ski - Matte dark brownish grey
-Mont Black - Sparkly black with multi-dimensional pearl
-Vellum - Pale white duochrome with violet opalescent shimmer

I got Mont Black. I'm kind of obsessed with black eye shadow. I covet it. I can't have enough. I've tried many. My favorite is MAC Smoking (from Smoke Signal's Smoking Eyes Eyeshadow x 4) - black with gold (velvet.) I do use MAC Cloudburst - black with blue pearl (velvet) but am not super crazy about the blue pearl. Mont Black is a perfect addition. There's not a really much of a color to the pearl. Pigmentation is not the best. So basically if you all ready have a black that does the job, you can skip this, but it does provide a sparkly smokiness that might not always be available (but maybe it will be- doesn't say limited edition.)

Face Candy Grade: A

Penultimate Eye Liner ($16.50) - A liquid pen-style liner that provides the ultimate precise, bold line in a rich, deep carbon black shade. Goes on fluidly, in one steady stroke, to style any fashion of eye line.
-Rapidblack - True black

I was VERY excited to try this and I was not let down. First of all, the formula is light and smooth unlike MAC Liquidlast Liner, which I think is goopy and hard to work with. The pen tip is so teensy tiny, I ended up getting frustrated that the line is so fine (I do thick lines on top lids only.) Lasting power is good, after I put it on I ended up crying and most of it was still there. This was definitely the easiest pen style liner I've ever used. I'm happy to recommend it.

Face Candy Grade: A+

Glitter Reflects ($17.50)
-Transparent Teal - Sparkling white with turquoise
-Reflects Antique Gold - Sparkling taupe

I like Glitters because I think they're so versatile. Mix some with your nail polish, lip gloss or moisturizer to add a little kick. You can even put it in your hair. Reflects Antique Gold provides a subtle gold glow that I like more than the Bronze.

New Collection: MAC - Dame Enda/ WIN IT!

Dame Edna is the resident muse for our spectacular post-holiday makeup collection, and modestly describes herself as "probably the most popular and gifted woman in the world today: housewife, investigative journalist, social anthropologist, talk-show host, swami, children's book illustrator, spin doctor, megastar, and Icon."

With packaging as mirthful and minx-like as The Legend herself, the Dame Collection of heavy-on-the-lilac Lipstick/Lipglass, eye shadow, Highlight powder and nail lacquers is in a class by itself! "Follow my beauty regime possums, and you'll never be cosmetically challenged." - Dame Edna

So I have to say that I'm not entirely sure why MAC chose Dame Edna as a beauty icon, but I do understand that she's popular in certain circles. Regardless, I do find the lilac packaging with sparkly red glasses pretty cute. I was most drawn to the lip selection and highlighting powder.

Lipstick ($14)
* Gladiola - Matte mid-tone blue pink
* Coral Polyp - Creamy mid-tone coral
* Kanga Rouge - Creamy dark blue red

Lipglass ($14)
* Hot Frost - Sheer mid-tone blue pink with multi-dimensional pearl
* Splendid - Frosty pale pinky coral
* Possum Nose Pink - Sheer bright coral with multi-dimensional pearl

Royal Tour Eye Trio ($32.50)
* Royal Tour - Mid-tone cool lilac
* Dame’s Desire - Frosty mid-tone reddish purple
* Climate Blue - Dark blue violet with pink pearl

Wisteria Eye Trio ($32.50)
* Fineshine - Frosty true silver
* Wisteria - Frosty robin’s egg blue
* Divine Night - Frosty charcoal with silver pearl

Hi-Light Powder ($26.00)
* What a Dame! - Pale clean orangey peach
* Spectacle! - Pale soft pink

Nail Lacquer ($11.00)
* Asiatique - Creamy classic red
* Varicose Violet - Frosty Mid-tone pinkish purple

**************
WIN IT!

To win a Dame Edna Eye Shadow Trio in Wisteria, leave a comment saying what you think of or know about Dame Edna. Winner will be picked at random on January 3rd.

Review: MAC Pearlglide Eye Liner

Have I ever mentioned that I LOVE MAC Pearlglide Eye Liner ($14.50) in Black Russian? This is the first Pearlglide liner I'd ever tried, and I've got to say I was impressed. It's a creamy kohl-like liner with a sparkly reflective finish. Highly pigmented and long wearing. Black Russian is black with navy blue glitter. I really wanted Molasses (dirty brown with midtone brown glitter) and Spare Change (midtone brown with copper glitter) but they were sold out when I went to the store. Anyway, for me it wore off more easily on my top lid but stayed on my lower lash line for 5+ hours. The glitter adds just the right amount of sparkle. It's creamy and dreamy.

The Best Makeup Deals On The Web

I am ALL about a sale. It's in my blood. I can't help myself. This season, there's more mark-downs than EVER. Seriously, I don't think I've ever seen them this good before. Here's a sampling of what could be yours- (but get it now, cuz it's going fast!)

  • Sephora.com- Did you want to try the Ojon Tawaka "the ball" or "the white ball"? Get it now for $35 (pictured, original price $65.) I caved and got the Vincent Longo Lip Luster Set for $26.60 (pictured, $89 value, original price $38) They're getting rid of Vincent Longo and Pop Beauty, so that's all marked down.
Try these coupon codes: TRAINCASE (for a mini white traincase packed with 15 samples, with any $25 purchase.) I got that, I think the code may still work, so give it a try. It's worth it. Also, try 10DAY (for a Bare Escentuals 10-day sample plus mini buki brush.) The one I used today was RIGHTBAG3 (for 10 samples.)

  • Bloomingdales.com- Dior Night Diamond Allover Diamond Dust is marked down to $59 (pictured, original price $80.) All the MAC Holiday Sets are marked down, and it seems that they're getting rid of Scott Barnes makeup (pictured.) It's all about half or more off.
  • Saksfifthavenue.com- I couldn't stop myself from buying Bobbi Brown's Copper Diamond Deluxe Mini Brush Set for $63.75 (pictured, original price $85.) They have a couple other Bobbi Brown palettes, some Laura Mercier items, and a few Jo Malone sets are marked down. Check out the Juicy Couture Cosmetic Cocktail Ring, it's marked down to $40.80 (pictured, original price ($68.)
  • Beautycrunch.com- I don't think I've ever mentioned this site before, which is kind of nuts, because it's so great. It's an authorized reselling site that offers overrun and discontinued artistry brand beauty products. It usually carries Stila, Senna, Too Faced and Lola. I've purchased two things and was happy with the service. Can you get a better deal than Stila's Blanc Palette for $8 (pictured, originally $32)? Another great choice is Stila's Fabulous For Fall Set in Chocolate, which is 50% off.
Do you have any other good info on sales? Please let us know in the comments! Do you splurge when there are makeup sales? (I do!)

Win 2 Tickets to "Yes Men"

Check out Yes To Carrots' Frosty Loves C Lip Butter Set ($9.99) for a cute (and quick) Holiday gift. It contains 3 butters- mint, berry and carrot.

"Yes Men" is a movie starring Jim Carey, where he challenges himself to say "yes" to everything for an entire year. I haven't seen it, but it looks rather similar to "Liar, Liar" but then again, it was written by the guy who wrote "Fun With Dick And Jane" and directed "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," so it might be okay. You never know. It also stars Zoey Deschanel and Bradley Cooper.

Note: "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" is really funny. I'm somewhat impartial to anything Judd Apatow makes, but I also love Jason Segel (ever since Freaks and Geeks.) It's funny and you've got to love Mila Kunis' and Kristen Bell's makeup looks. Very nice. I highly recommend it.

WIN IT!!! FREE MOVIE TICKETS!
SO, if you want to win some free tickets to see "Yes Men," all you have to do is leave a comment telling me one thing you will say yes to this holiday season. I'll pick the winner at random on Christmas and send you the Fandango codes.

Review: Bobbi Brown Party Collection

I crave Bobbi Brown. I totally have a huge girl crush on her. I think she's amazingly talented and smart. Anyway, let's get down to the make up. I have been trying out a few things from the new party collection.

-Glitter Gloss (limited edition, $19)- Infused with light-reflecting flecks of glitter, this gloss adds high-shine and shimmer. Available in 6 colors. I tried Martini- silver platinum with platinum flecks. When I first put it on I was like "woah- way too silver" but when I rubbed it in, I realized that the platinum flecks were somewhat natural and very pretty. The base color is basically clear so you really just see the flecks. It would look pretty over a lipstick that you wanted to look cooler. I love that there's a clear plastic cover that protects the gloss from the actual clear cover of the square compact. No smudgy, dirty window!

Face Candy Grade: A+

-Glitter Lip Balm (limited edition, $19)- All the benefits of Bobbi's Lip Balm combined with pearl and glitter pigments. I tried Pink Crystal and now carry it around with me everywhere. I love the mirored, round, black case. The gloss is smooth, non-sticky, easy to apply and adds a light frosty pink finishing touch. I am quite tempted to buy the other two just because I know I'd love them all equally.

Face Candy Grade: A

-Copper Diamond Shimmer Brick Compact (limited edition, $40)- 5 shades: candlelight, gold, copper, beige and sand combine to create a warm glow. Compact features a faux-leather inset and metallic copper finish. This was love at first sight. The case, the colors, everything. I like the shimmery warmth it provides in the winter and think it would look great with a tan too.

Review & Give Away: Soft Lips

Softlips has 2 new organic lip conditioners in honeydew and pomegranate. Both of them are very nicely scented but I don't think they have SPF. I have always liked the thin tubes and always have them on hand. There's 2 new limited edition flavors- sugar cookie and winter mint. They're packaged in sets, so it's sugar cookie and cherry w/ spf 20 and winter mint and vanilla w/ spf 20. While I don't think that the sugar cookie one really tastes like its name but I still like it. It's a sweeter vanilla IMO. I really liked the winter mint. Yum.

Face Candy Grade: B

GIVE AWAY:
You can win all 6 products, (honeydew, pomegranate, sugar cookie, cherry, winter mint and vanilla) PLUS a MAC Lipstick in Back To Del Rio (deep brown red) by telling me what your favorite face wash is and why in the comments until December 18th, when I'll choose a winner at random.

Review: NARS Nail Polish

I love darker nails for the winter, so I was excited to try NARS Nail Polish ($16) in Chinatown and Rebel Yell. I've been wearing Chinatown, a deep blood red, on my toes for 2 weeks now. It still looks perfect. Two coats was enough to provide opaque coverage. I used Rebel Yell, dusty pomegranate, on my fingers. I love the color. As always the NARS formula is "chip resistant" and provides UV protection to prevent polish discoloration.

Review: Philosophy - Under the Mistletoe Lip Gloss Trio

So after my good luck with the raspberry sorbet gloss, I caved on philosophy's Under the Mistletoe Ornament ($28.) At $9.30 each, compared to $12 each it's a steal. I tried Spicy Pear Cobbler first. Mm, yummy, just like Jelly Belly Pear jellybeans. (I'm obsessed with those, I can't get enough, they're so good!) I wasn't disappointed. I know that it's green because it's pear, but I'm not a huge fan of the milky lime color it turns your lips. Good news, it eventually wears off and it's just sparkle. I can't help but use it regardless of the green color, it just tastes and smells so fresh and spicy! The second one was Orange Cranberry Spritzer. It kind of made me more upset that the 3-in-one was "temporarily out of stock." Love the dusty rose color and it smells and tastes just like its name. Finally there was Gingerbread. I feel like it's not as good as it could be. I wouldn't have bought it if it hadn't come in this set. The color isn't bad though. Maybe a good gift? 2/3 isn't bad. I wish they'd put in S'mores instead. Oh well. I think it's a great deal, I suggest buying it and splitting it up for your friends, or do what I did and keep them all for yourself. :) Why not?

Review: Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual

Bobbi's Inspiration:

"I wanted this book to serve as a complete reference guide for everyone who wants to know about beauty and makeup. It's filled with complete step-by-step lessons, industry tips and beautiful pictures."
Bobbi Brown's Makeup Manual ($32) just came out to bookstores on December 1, and it's awesome. I love her and her books. I own a lot, but not all of them. This one doesn't fail. There's a good tutorial for hooded Asian eyes. One with natural colors and one with thick black eye liner. This would be a great gift for your friends, and if you're shopping for younger girls, try Bobbi's Teenage Beauty. I had a lot of fun reading through this and think you might too. You'll see it at Bobbi counters in January.

Review: NARS Cordura Eye Shadow Duo

A while back, I splurged on the NARS Duo Eye Shadow($32) in Cordura. The shimmering warm rich brown and shimmering dark brown are indeed perfection. Both colors are beyond fab. I'll admit, I'm a taupe/brown/black eyeshadow type of girl, not one to venture into other colors. I use this all the time. It's perfect. The colors are highly pigmented and last.On top of UDPP it's stuck like glue. 100% satisfaction, even though it costs +$30.

Chocolaty.

Review: Kenzoamour le Parfum

Kenzoamour le Parfum ($65) is a woody oriental that combines the richness of benzoin balm and amber and the softness of frangipani blossom and vanilla. First I want to say that I am not a big fan of vanilla, so that was an immediate turn-off. I will say that as the day went on the woodiness became more acceptable, but then it completely wore off. Maybe it's just my body chemistry that doesn't mesh with it. But the bottle is pretty cool looking. Which makes me want to keep trying it until I like it. Bottom line, it's just okay, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it but I wouldn't steer you away from it either. So, we'll see.
