Review: Clarsskin Underarm Cleanser

Clarsskin Underarm Cleanser ($22) is a specialized underarm cleanser that erases antipersperant deodorant residue. Did you ever wonder what the white stuff left on your razor after shaving your armpits is? That's it. And they're made of metallic salts. So when I heard that this prevented pit stains, I was pretty interested. Because what's grosser than that? All you have to do is was your armpits with a tiny amount and rinse. It protects clothes and underarms and keeps your razor gunk-free. Sure, it's an extra step but sometimes I do think it is worth it. If I'm going out or it's hot outside. TREND: Night clubbing – theatrical makeup – strong eyes, porcelain skin

Inspiration:
The Marc Jacobs Fall 2009 collection paid homage to the New York night club scene of the 1970s and ‘80s. Drawing inspiration from these decades and the works of Sprouse, St. Laurent, and Halston, François Nars took into consideration each model’s individual beauty before creating a separate edgy look, reminiscent of the past but still very modern. "We are doing quite an eclectic look," he said. The inspiration for diversity came from Nars’ book XRAY. “[Marc] wanted to keep that feeling,” said Nars, “the variety of looks, the same way we do the campaigns for NARS.” Overall, it was important that each girl look beautiful, even with strong theatrical looks. Much like the fashion, Nars emphasized having fun with makeup for the coming year, despite the times we live in- “It’s a good antidote.”

Look:
Focusing on an edgy, night clubbing look, strong eyes and bold color were a major theme. Black shadow laid the foundation for creating the dramatic eye, to which the artists added cobalt blues, deep greens, bright purples, reds, fuchsias, and glitter. “There is a wide variety of color,” said Nars, “it’s whatever looks good on the girl.” For many of the models, porcelain skin was a key component, allowing the black eyes and bright colors to pop. “You want to play with makeup,” says Nars, “makeup is a great accessory - that is the message.”

Review: Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask

Who doesn't love Bliss? I enjoy their Fabulous Foaming Face Wash, their body products, etc. I've got to tell you about this mask. (Which is so awesome, that it rang up the most sales of ANY face mask in 2007.) The Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask ($52) claims to get your skin glowing in 5 minutes flat. Here are some of the things it does:
-Oxygenates and energizes skin for maximum glow
-Brightens skin tone and supports collagen maintenance
-Binds moisture for soft, supple, youthful skin
-Detoxifies, preventing future breakouts

Using the Blue Spa's famous Triple Oxygen Treatment Facial effects, it is said to make your face fresher and younger-looking. Even Rihanna's MUA Mylah Morales uses it to hydrate her skin before an award show or after she's been traveling, which tends to dry out the skin. And she's got awesome skin, so I was willing to give it a shot! You're supposed to apply it to damp skin and leave it for 5 minutes. During those five minutes it tingles and bubbles a little bit into a silky smooth foam that you rub in and then rinse off. My skin seemed a little brighter, no longer dull and rough.

Inspiration: The collection took inspiration from the 1940’s, reflecting the surrealist images of photographer Lee Miller. Combined with a bit of 80’s rock and roll glam, makeup artist Diane Kendal created a strong look without being too girly.

Look: “The look is all about the eyes with soft matte lips for contrast,” said Diane Kendal. To bring strength to the face, Diane focused on creating smoky eyes and full brows, while downplaying the lips and keeping skin fresh with a light brushing of blush for a healthy glow.

Abaete Fall 2009 Look by Tina Turnbrow

Abaeté’s Laura Poretzky was inspired by Les Incroyables, a group of gentlemen who formed in the 18th Century after the French Revolution. Beauty.com celebrity makeup artist Tina Turnbow used this inspiration to create an “old world masculinity meets modern day femme” makeup look for the show. It was all about a monochromatic, dewy complexion with a touch of color. The eyes had a hint of gloss and the lips were slightly rose. Tina was able to achieve the look with several tarte complexion products such as smooth operator oil-free natural foundation with SPF 20 and the eraser 4-in-1 natural concealer.

Inspiration: For Fall 2009, Hervé Léger drums to the beat of an urban tribe with a gradient palette of earth tones polished by rich shades of deep ebony. Makeup artist Diane Kendal drew inspiration from Helmut Newton photographs, using the concept of a brave warrior - strong and fierce. “The collection is very hard and sculpted so we wanted to keep the skin neutral and show strength through the eyebrows,” said Diane. Look: The focus was a very strong eyebrow with glowy skin, communicating strength without being too bold. “We created very fresh, dewy skin by using the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation. It really allowed the skin’s natural highlights to shine through,” said Diane.

I am a Bobbi Brown Skin Color Natural 4. I know this from using the Foundation Stick, which I carry with me in my purse. So I was delighted to try this foundation. I applied this in the morning, after moisturizer and primer. It sunk in nicely and lasted for a good 4 hours.

Face Candy: Grade B

Face Touch Up Stick ($22)- A portable, mini stick foundation that covers imperfections and redness. Oil-free and for normal and combination skin types. Available in the same colors as the foundation.

I touched up with this, and it's very creamy, much creamier than the Foundation Stick. It matched my skin perfectly and hid the redness around my nose and lips. I'm kind of surprised that it's a foundation, because I feel like it acts more like a concealer. Be sure to apply powder afterward, or I think it may slide right off your face. I would steer oily skinned customers away from this product, and toward the foundation stick, which is a bit drier.

I tried Ballet and Mica. I like these. The colors are sheer and provide enough glitter to light up your eyes. The only problem is the fallout. It wasn't too bad, but it was noticeable. Ballet was my favorite and reminded me a little of Urban Decay's Midnight Cowboy. Mica is gray. A lot deeper gray than in the picture. It goes well as a wash on the entire lid before a smoky blue or gray eye.
