Marc Jacobs Joelle Bow Front Ribbon Dress on Sale @ Giltgroupe.com

Check it out. The Marc Jacobs Joelle Bow Front Ribbon Dress ($458) is on sale NOW at Giltgroupe.com for $158. It's the same one that Leighton Meester (aka Blair Waldorf) wore in that summer episode of Gossip Girl. It was lust at first sight for me. Go get it! Not a member? Click here.

Review: Max Factor 2000 Calorie Extreme Mascara

The old version of Max Factor's 2000 Calorie Mascara was one of the first mascaras I ever saw in my Grandmother's bathroom. I was quite intrigued, being a 10 year-old with non-existent eye lashes. I was adopted and my Grandmother, Gammy, was a beautiful all american type lady. And she had Alopecia, a condition that causes you to lose your hair. ANYWAY, she used it and it was one of the first ones I ever used. It was thickening and the blackest black. I have fond memories of experimenting with crushed eye shadow and vaseline in her bathroom. I miss her.

It's been reformulated into 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper ($ since then and I actually am not as pleased as I thought I'd be. The brush is fine, the formula is okay but I wouldn't say it fattens my lashes and really volumizes (for that I say go with L'Oreal Voluminous). It's good at separating but it seems like a regular mascara. Even with 3 coats I still craved more. Overall, not bad, but not awesome either.
That being said, lots of people on Makeup Alley liked it. So you be the judge. Read more reviews at Total Beauty.
Available in:
-403 Blackest-Brown
-402 Black Velvet
-401 Extreme Blackout
(I have not idea what the difference between black velvet and extreme blackout is. Do you?)

Sonia Kashuk Spring 2009 Spring Treasures

Sonia Kashuk's Spring 2009 collection for Target was inspired by the ocean and exotic marine life. I have always loved SK's products. Luxurious but affordable. Here's what's in the collection:

-Treasure Chest Bag ($12.99) - A soft polyester makeup bag that opens to one large, clear zippered bag and on the other side 2 silver mesh zippered bags. The front flap has a deep pocket on the inside and a smaller one on the outside. Dimensions: 10"x2"x5.5". Wipe clean. I really like it, it's large enough to hold all my everyday essentials and it's cute. I've always loved coral. More on that in a bit.

Face Candy Grade: A+
-Hidden Treasure Brush Set ($19.99)- This smaller coral clutch is super cute. I would even take it out as my purse. It has 6 brushes with coral handles. 1 powder brush, 1 fluffy eye shadow brush, 1 smaller crease brush, 1 eye smudging brush, 1 lip or concealer brush and 1 angled eyebrow or shadow brush. For $20, it's a deal.

Face Candy Grade: A+

-Coral Reef Highlighter Brush ($12.99)

-Pink Sands Highlighting Powder ($12.99)- A sheer, pearly pale pink pressed powder. (You love my alliteration. I know it!) The packaging is cool looking but seems a little bit cheap and plasticy in your hand. Provides a luminous glow.

Face Candy Grade: B

-How To Create The Freshness Of Spring Cosmetic Palette ($19.99)- 3 eye shadows, 3 lip colors and 1 blush. There are cards in the package that give you ideas of different looks you can do with the palette.

photo: target.com

Anyway, I was saying that I love coral. I love red coral. My china pattern is called "Cristobal Red" by Raynaud. It's also available in blue and brown I think, but red called my name. I LOVE it. It's so gorgeous. If you live in Maryland, I got mine at Sunnyfield's in Baltimore. It's also available at Bloomingdales.

MAC Style Warrior Winner!

So I completely forgot that I was supposed to announce the winner for this on June 20th. OOPS. I'm sorry. Better late than never, right? The winner is crystesmom@yahoo.com. Enjoy! For more contests, stay tuned!

Review: L'Oreal HiP Kohl Eyeliner

I was curious to see what these L'Oreal HiP Kohl Eyeliners ($13) were like. I tried Navy Kohl and Gold Kohl. It is "smooth and velvety, smudge-proof, wear-proof" iridescent kohl. Things looked promising from the tube. When you pull out the felt-tip applicator, which is really just a thin black wand that you're supposed to press into your lash line, crumbs of kohl get everywhere, so I recommend doing it over a paper towel. (Don't do it sitting on your couch, watching tv, like I did.) Mm-hm... Overall the colors weren't bad, but the entire application of this product is just a mess. I don't know where they get off claiming it's "smudge- and wear-proof" because those are the only two things I guarantee will happen. Fall out is bad. And a $13 drugstore liner? No. Hell No. Read more reviews at Total Beauty.

Bobbi Brown - Iluminating Bronze Collection

"This summer, Bobbi Brown is making it easier than ever to get the look of healthy, sun-kissed skin without the damaging effects of the sun. Take your pick from a flattering array of options, designed for all complexions from fair to dark."

Illuminating Bronzing Powder ($33)- An ultra-soft, smooth pressed powder formulated with a blend of sheer powder and micro pearls.
Available in:
-Antigua- Light Pink Bronze
-Aruba- Light Golden Bronze

-Maui- Pink Coral Bronze
-Bali Brown- Golden Bronze

-Barbados- Warm Deep Bronze
-Bahama- Deep Golden Bronze

I tried this in Antigua, which is shown above. I think I'm going to have to go out and get Barbados. Antigua is a soft bronzy pink that looks amazing applied with her Face Blender brush. If you haven't seen them in person, go to the counter and take a look. I doubt you'll be able to walk away empty handed. :)

Face Candy Grade: A+

Shimmer Brick For Body ($75)- A silky, lightweight powder containing 3 shimmering bars of color.

All Over Body Brush ($85)- A soft, luxurious brush with ultra soft bristles for sheer, even application.

All Over Bronzing Gel SPF 15 ($28)- Gel-based bronzer for face. New in Golden Sun.

SEPHORA Eau Girl Fragrance Deluxe Sampler ($80 Value)

Eau Girl Fragrance Deluxe Sampler ($80 value, for $40) - Sephora's most wanted fragrances, all in one little box. Contains:
- 0.17 oz Dior Miss Dior Cherie Eau de Parfum
- 0.17 oz Bvlgari Omnia Green Jade Eau de Toilette
- 0.17 oz Versace Bright Crystal Eau de Toilette
- 0.13 oz Vera Wang Princess Eau de Toilette
- 0.3 oz Prada Infusion d'Iris Eau de Parfum
- 0.13 oz Clean Eau de Parfum
- 0.24 oz Ralph Lauren Ralph Eau de Toilette
- 0.13 oz Givenchy Very Irresistable Givenchy Eau de Toilette

I really like this one because the bottles are so cute and mini. (I'm envisioning them on a mirrored perfume tray on top of my dresser). There's lots of other Sephora sets like this one, one for pink lips, one for face quenchers. I'm actually going to have to see what this one looks like in real life before I pick it up. I've been burned by shopping online too many times!

Kenzo Cleansing Ice Jelly For Those Hot Summer Days (and Nights)

It's been hot lately. I cannot stand the heat. I will melt. Pretty much exactly like the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz. We still have not gotten our air conditioners out yet. So I live with a fan. One fan. When I got Kenzo's Cleansing Ice Jelly ($28) I stuck it in the fridge for... a while (or maybe it was in there for a month and I just found it now). I grabbed a cotton ball and saturated it with the cold gel. When you apply it, it becomes a water-like cleanser. The gel melts and refreshes and cools your face. It's awesome. I've never tried anything like it before. Fifteen minutes later, my face still feels cool and clean too.

DIY - Mixing Medium

IMO, the only way to use loose pigments is with a mixing medium. But where do you get it? MAC has one, but it's only available if you're a PRO. So here's a solution you can do yourself- Glycerine. Glycerine is a humectant that absorbs water from the air and seals in the moisture, making your makeup last longer. You have to dilute it with water otherwise it becomes very dehyrdating. Make small batches, because they go bad after about 2 weeks.

For Eye Shadow Mixing Medium- The recipe is 1:3. So 1 part glycerine and 3 parts purified or regular water. I recently went to CVS and saw a bottle like the one above and it was about $4.99. I use a 1/4 tsp. to measure. Shake it up, get your brush slightly damp and apply shadow. When you're done, store it in a small, airtight container.

For A Facial Spray: Go out and get a spray bottle. Use 1 part glycerine and 10 parts water. Spray on your face after your apply makeup and pat into skin. Great substitute for MAC Fix+.

Chanel - Celestial Lights - Spring 2009

Chanel Lèvres Scintillantes ($27)
* Nebula - Parma pink sparkling with blue, white and violet pearlizers
* Venus - Vivid pink with gold and pink mica
* Silex - Coral busrting with coppery and rosy reflectors
* Météore - Rosy copper
* Cosmos - Red-brown sprinkled with gold
* Mica - Tender, sweet and opalescent pink
* Mirage - Starry dark violet
* Jupiter - Red boosted with matching pearlizers

Le Vernis ($23)
* Cosmic Violine - Plum to match the lips
* Mica Rose - Tender pink

I generally tend to steer away from Chanel, just because of the $$! But I will admit that the Glossimers and the Eyeshadow Quads draw me in. Do you like Chanel? What are your favorite products?

Review: Barille - 60 Second Mani-Pedi

I've always preferred to do my nails myself. I love pedicures, but I feel like no one can ever do my fingers right. When I do them at home, I like to clip my nails and then use Barille's 60 Second Mani-Pedi ($25.) I scoop about a tsp in to my hands and and rub on the entire hand and and especially around the cuticles. The fruity smelling salts leave your skin smooth and moisturized. The tub is 12 oz. so it's a good amount for $25. Here's what they say:

Key ingredients: Dead Sea Salts; Jojoba, Grape Seed, Soybean, Avocado, Palm, Sweet Almond, Apricot Oils; Rosemary, Spearmint, Peppermint Oils; Lemon, Orange and Grapefruit Peel Oils.

Natural Benefits include:
-Dead Sea Salts: promote regeneration of healthy skin rich in hydrogen sulfate crystal salts gently exfoliate while purifying the skin
-Grapeseed: natural anti-oxidant / helps to protect from environment
-Avocado: soothes the skin, natural germicide
-Jojoba: soothing and energizing

MAC - Naked Honey

Bees do it, now MAC does it! Honey that is! As ancient and exotic as Kohl, great beauties have long revered the natural restorative powers of the Golden Elixir.
Following the example of their fabled Queen, Cleopatra, Egyptians, bathed in honey and milk. Queen Anne of England used it to silken her hair; from the Ancient Greeks to the Roman Empire, honey has never lost its regal, ever-amber lustre. We love the luxury of its sensual essence... but we also know that it's a highly efficient and wholesome humectant and healer. Introducing our limited edition Naked Honey collection- three aspects of golden warmth and sun-made sweetness for the body, layered with two decidedly different honeycomb-derived fragrances- celebrating the secret lives of Queen Bees. Complementary shades of High-Light Powder, Eyes Shadow and Lipglass ARE ALL THE BUZZ FOR SUMMER.

Lipglass ($14.00 USD/$16.50 CDN)
-She’s a Star - Light neutral gold (Repromote from Dress Camp)
-Queen Bee - Mid-tone apricot with multi-dimensional pearl
-Buzz - Dark copper brown with multi-dimensional pearl

Eyeshadow ($14.50 USD/$17.00 CDN)
-Crème de Miel - Frosty light yellow gold
-Pollinator - Mid-tone warm reddened peach with pearl
-Buckwheat - Dark copper brown with multi-dimensional pearl

High-Light Powder ($24.50 USD/$29.50 CDN)
A high-light powder specially created for the Naked Honey Collection. Features an embossed honeycomb pattern. Super fine, impeccably pearlized, it creates soft highlights. On cheeks, brows, shoulders–anywhere on the body.
-Honey Light - A light peachy gold with shimmer
-Golden Nectar - Muted golden tan with gold shimmer

I tried Golden Nectar and it's quite the multi-use product. If you use your finger or a eye shadow brush, it's pure gold. Use a fan brush or a fluffy face brush, and it's a golden highlighter for your face or body. The texture is super fine and the honeycomb embossing is so cute.

Face Candy Grade: A

Naked Honey Salve ($18.50 USD/$22.50 CDN)
Formulated from honey, organic beeswax, sunflower oil and other natural ingredients, this rich honey–scented and flavoured salve instantly moisturizes and helps recondition dry skin. Multi-purpose. Use everywhere.

This little pot has a medium-thick honey like salve. It kind of reminds me of rosebud salve but a little thicker and honey based. I like it for my lips, cuticles and feet the best.

Face Candy Grade: B

Naked Honey Hand and Body Cream
($22.50 USD/$27.00 CDN)
A sensuous cream made from bio-converted honey, shea butter, and vitamins C and E derivatives. Absorbs quickly for skin-softening moisture. Conditions, nourishes, protects. Use on all areas where ultra-moisture is called for.

Naked Honey Body Wash ($19.50 USD/$23.50 CDN)
Formulated from bio-converted honey, this body wash cleanses the skin while providing the soothing and moisturizing benefits of lavender, narcissus, jasmine flower and blue agave extracts. Provides a sensual, calming, cleansing experience.

Creations Fragrance: Naked Honey ($22.50 USD/$28.50 CDN)
An aromatic journey that traces honey’s fragrant heart back to summer’s sweetest blooms. Energy starts to buzz, spirits soar, light floral and woodsy notes float toward an electric finale. Sweet and sexy all the way.

Creations Fragrance: Africanimal ($22.50 USD/$28.50 CDN)
A scent that starts with a honey-ness that’s seductive and given its dash of pepper, not without spice. Add a dark kiss of bergamot and wood, and an aromatic orgy breaks out to create a scent that's all-honey, but far from sweet.

MAC - Mercenary Nail Lacquer

Check it out. This is a crap photo I took with my iphone. It looks a little lighter than it does in reality. Anyway, this is MAC's Nail Lacquer ($11) in Mercenary, frosted blackened bronze, from the Style Warrior Collection. LOVE it. Seriously. It's goldy, bronzy, browny, shimmery gorgeousness for your fingertips. LIQUID GOLD I'm telling you. Go out NOW and buy it. Simply amazing. One of the best MAC NL's in a while. For some reason, I have this habit of painting my nails and then deciding a top-coat is too much trouble. It always chips off in a day or two. I don't know what my problem is. Laziness I suppose. I def recommend a top coat. My favorite as of now is Sally Hansen's NO CHIP 10 Day Nail Color in 01 Clear. I don't think "10 day" is quite accurate, I'd say 6-7 at the most. But it does it's job.

What's your favorite nail color for the summer? Tell me in the comments.

Review: Buff'd Cosmetics Mineral Foundation

photo: buff'd cosmetics

In the winter I like to experiment with liquid and cream foundations. In the summer, I'm all about mineral foundation. Every time I re-discover it I'm truly amazed. I used to use Bare Escentuals. But now that times are harder, I decided to try a cheaper brand. Vanessa, at Nessassary Makeup uses Buff'd Cosmetics in some of her tutorials, so I decided to give it a go.

One of the great things about Buff'd is that they offer sample sizes. For $1.50 you get 1/2 a tsp. I purchased a few in hopes of finding the right shade. I recommend going a lot lighter and a lot darker than you think you'll be. Anyway, I purchased the full size jar of Mineral Foundation ($15), the original formula in Ginger, which may or may not be too yellow for me, but whatevs. I like it.

The foundation comes in 3 formulas, check it out:
original: a great full-coverage foundation with fantastic oil absorption and natural UV protection. ingredients: titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, mica, iron oxides, ultramarines

light: specifically for those who prefer a lightweight foundation that still offers buildable coverage and great oil absorption. ingredients: mica, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, iron oxides, ultramarines

concealing: made with a touch of kaolin clay offering even better coverage with greater oil absorption. Ideal for those with combination to oily skin and a great spot concealer. ingredients: titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, iron oxides, kaolin clay, mica, ultramarines
I use my EcoTools Retractable Kabuki Brush to apply a tiny bit of the foundation in downward circular motions. When in doubt, keep on buffing! If you still need more, tap a bit of foundation into the cap of the jar, swirl your brush and tap it, then apply. It's better to build the layers than it is to start out with too much. I'm very impressed with the coverage and finish this foundation provides. I highly recommend it. And $15 vs $24 wins me over. I actually kind of like this BETTER than B.E...
