Lots of women are rejoicing over this.

1...2...3... Tarte Reviews!

MultiplEYE Natural Lash Enhancer ($65)- So I wrote about this before... here. I'm not a terribly habitual person. The closest I get is brushing my teeth every day. I started using this stuff a while ago... a long while ago... probably 4 months ago. I used it, would forget for 4 days, use it, forget for 5 days, use it... you get the picture. I wasn't expecting much in the way of results. Well, after using it on and off for the past 4 months, I have to tell you, this stuff is THE SHIT. $65? WELL WORTH IT, if you're a little Asian in the eyelash department. Really recently, like a couple days ago, I began to notice... my lashes are definitely longer and stronger. Thicker? I don't know. But longer, for sure. The difference is amazing! You can actually see my lashes when I curl them and put on mascara. No wonder it's out of stock at Tarte.com! I unfortunately have no before and after pictures to show you, because I don't have the forethought for that stuff. :(

EmphasEYES Brow High Definition Brow Pencil ($19.50)- A superslim, waterproof brow pencil with a comb. This reminds me a lot of Anastasia's Brow Whiz, with its ultra-fine tip to mimic brow hairs. But I feel that Tarte's version is a bit more pigmented. I LOVE this. I use Medium Brown and then blend with the spooley brush at the end. Instant perfection.
Available in:
-Taupe- Universal for blonde, auburn, lighter brown or grey hair
-Medium Brown- Best for medium to dark brown or black hair

face candy grade: a+

Green Siren Limited Edition Natural Cheek Stain ($30)- This stain is a bit different from the others in that it doesn't have a jelly texture. It's a harder, un-waxy form. I like to rub my fingers in it to warm the product up and then apply to cheeks. But you can also just rub the tube along your cheeks if you don't care about getting foundation/powder on the top of it. The color is a warm golden apricot, a very universally flattering shade.

MAC - Trend F/W '09

As designers deepen their fascination with all things architectural, from Raf Simon's structural dresses for Jil Sander to the futuristic, constructed 'pod' shoes that we saw at Balenciaga, so too goes the modern face.

The shapes and steely colours in this collection are an expression of the trend, an ode to the strength of a woman, rendered with true architectural precision. The geometry of eyes in graphic, graphite tones of grey with the beguilijng blue scheen of an elegant grid of sky-reflecting windows on a stunning concrete skyscraper. Trend F/W '09 is a living tower of power! Lips are dark or sseductively nude. The fragrance? Asphalt Flower, a limited-life scent as bold and urbane as the modern metropolis.
Fragrance:
-Asphalt Flower ($20 US/ $24 CDN)- glossy violet and iris petals cast an ebonized sheen over dark clouds of vanilla and patchouli. Like a shimmering lace veil this scent caresses and envelops of glamour and drama.
Top note: Violet, Ylang
Mid: Iris, Heliotrope
Dry: Olibanum, Patchouli, Vanilla

Lipstick ($14 US/ $16.50 CDN)
-Red Full-Stop- Bright neon coral (lusture)
-Hipster- Burgundy with frost (frost)
-Faultlessly F/W- Blackened blue violet (amplified)

Review: Urban Decay

Ink For Eyes ($22)- I was very intrigued by this new cream eyeliner described as "everything you want in a cream eyeliner." Nylon 12 supposedly decreases drag for flawless application while softening and absorbing excess oil. I had to show the adorable packaging. Isn't the peacock cute? Love it. And the brush inside is pretty sweet too. I tried it in Zero, black. I was impressed with how smooth the application was. I don't know if it's the brush, the liner or a combination of the two. The formula is very lightweight and glides on easily. The main problem I had with it was its wearing power. Having hooded Asian eyes, this stuff disappeared after 3 minutes. No bueno. Too bad because it seemed so promising.

Available in:
-Binge- Midnight Blue
-Demolition- Brown
-Empire- Eggplant
-Loaded- Deep Green
-Pyrotechnics- Iridescent Glitter, Clear Base
-Zero- Black

face candy grade: d

24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil ($17)- I don't usually use lip liner. It seems like an unnecessary step. But I'm smitten with this one. The waterproof formula contains Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E and Cottonseed Oil to nourish and smooth. You don't even need to put on lip balm before lining, this one is so smooth. I tried Paranoid, a dark pinky nude that matches my natural lip color almost exactly, but I think I'm going to go back for Wallflower and Wicked. Try it and tell me you don't like it.

Available in:
-Envious- Medium Berry
-Gash- Brick Red
-Heavy- Shimmering Nude
-Naked- Neutral Pink
-Ozone- Clear
-Paranoid- Dark Pinky Nude
-Wallflower- Medium Nude
-Wicked- Shimmering Light Pink

face candy grade: A+

24/7 Concealer ($17)- Concealer in stick form filled with moisturizing Vitamin E and Microsponge, an ingredient that absorbs excess oil preventing further breakouts and clogged pores. I just want to say that I LOVE all of Urban Decay's 24/7 pencils. They ROCK. The 24/7 Concealer was no exception. I tried DEA, but it was too light. FBI was the ideal match for me. It's super simple now to dot the pencil over the red parts of my face and blend. Set with powder and you'll be good to go for a good few hours. The only real problem I see is because the concealer is so soft it makes the tip of the pencil easily breakable. Which is why you need the next product.

Available in:
-CIA - Light
-DEA- Light- Medium
-FBI- Medium
-NSA- Medium- Dark

face candy grade: A+

Grind House ($8)- A multi-functional pencil sharpener designed for the entire 24/7 family. Love the removable lid and plastic tool for scraping and dislodging shavings. Plus, the blade is infused with 1% carbon to prevent rust. I'm sold. Love it.

Random Musings and Review: Erno Laszlo - pHormula 3-9 Lip Balm SPF 15

I don't know about you guys, but I get really tired of all those regurgitated NYFW and Emmy beauty breakdowns. I will do a couple of the ones that I liked but then I get lazy. I figure it's my blog, so I'll do what I please.

Side note:
Uugghh... Does anyone ever feel like there's not enough hours in the day? There's so much to do and so little time! I've been a bit stressed out lately. My husband and I put in an offer on a house that's super cute and like 2 blocks away from our apartment but it's a little expensive and really tiny, so that's a pretty big commitment... I'm going back to classes for court reporting on Tuesday and Thursday, I go right after work and don't get home until 10 p.m. The drive is 40 minutes each way! It's so boring...I've been gaining weight since my thyroid is now normal, so I'm trying to eat better and be more active... Oh, and it's crazy, but the holidays are all ready freaking me out. I never know what to give anyone...

Erno Laszlo - pHormula 3-9 Lip Balm SPF 15 ($34)- Balm loaded with essential fatty acids, marine spheres, tamanu oil and shea butter. It provides a smooth, kind of oily coating on lips to seal in moisture, something I've NEVER experienced in a balm. No need for frequent re-application! The only problem I find is that because there are oils in it, they tend to separate in the tube. And just how the hell are you supposed to mix something in a tube? I think it's a great product, but $34? That's a bit much.

Get The Look: Christina Hendricks @ 2009 Emmy's

photo: justjared.com

Georgie Eisdell prepped Mad Men's Christina Hendricks with La Mer Beaute. He says,
“The look we went for with Christina had a little 20's influence. I wanted it to keep Christina's makeup really fresh, clean and elegant. I prepared her skin with La Mer’s The Moisturizing Lotion – it’s perfect to hydrate the skin with being greasy and a perfect base for foundation. Next, I love La Mer’s Treatment Fluid Foundation SPF 15 for Christina. It is light on the skin but gives excellent coverage where needed. Under her eyes I used La Mer’s new Radiant Concealer SPF 25 - a genius product, it goes on so easily and does not cake under the eye. Before I started on her eye I lathered her lips with La Mer’s The Lip Balm. I love using this on Christina; she has full lips so keeping them hydrated is really important and when it's time to apply lipstick it goes on beautifully.”

Review: Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen

photo: sallyhansen.com

I'd been wanting to try these new Sally Hansen Nail Art Pens ($7.99) for a while but waited until they were on sale at CVS. I originally wanted white, but they didn't have it, so I got black. When I've wanted to do nail art in the past I always used a tiny detail paintbrush so having the polish and brush in one is awesome. Paint a base color and then use the pen for any detail. Because the formula is water-based, you can remove any mistakes by rubbing a moist cotton swab over the area without damaging the dry nail polish. And because of that, you obviously have to use a top coat to seal everything in. Overall, I like it a lot but think it's overpriced.

Available in 8 colors:
-White (cream)
-Black (cream)
-Light Pink (cream)
-Hot Pink (cream)
-Blue (cream)
-Red (frost)
-Silver (frost)
-Gold (frost)

NYFW S/S 2010 - Derek Lam - NARS Cosmetics

SHOW: Derek Lam

LEAD ARTIST: Tom Pecheux for NARS Cosmetics

TREND: Tribal Inspired Eyes and Doll-Like Red Lips

INSPIRATION: Derek Lam’s inspiration drew from a nostalgic fantasy evoked by places such as Coney Island, Asbury Park, and Key West. It was a parade of carnival essence and cinematic quality with an American twist meant to bring forth a new perspective on silhouette.

LOOK: An optimistic fairytale of color. Tom Pecheux created vibrant eyes and bright, cherry-red lips complemented by a doll-like flush of pink and orange. “I wanted to dot the lips red with my fingers rather than draw a straight line of color. Instead, I chose to do that with the eyes- I love when the multiple colors are drawn straight across and outward for a very tribal effect. I used the new Easy Lover lip gloss on just the outline of the lips to have the girls appear doll-like. It was Coney Island chic,” said Tom Pecheux.

Face:
· Blend NARS Sheer Glow Foundation with a foundation brush into skin
· Set with NARS Loose Powder
· Buff skin with NARS Kabuki Artisan Boton Brush for a porcelain doll effect

Eyes:
· Using the emerald side of NARS Misfit Duo Eyeshadow and NARS Eye Shader brush, drag the
shadow along the lower lash line straight across until just past the outer corner
· Dust the violet side of NARS Jolie Poupee Duo Eyeshadow on the eyelids; use the darker side in the crease and fade into the temple joining the emerald green from Misfit
· Highlight the inner corners of the eyes with NARS Bains Douche Glitter Pencil (NEW for Spring 2010), making the connection between the purple and green
· After curling lashes with NARS Eyelash Curler, apply three coats of NARS Larger Than Life
Volumizing Mascara on the top and bottom lashes
· Dust the burnt orange side of NARS Mediteranee Duo Eyeshadow along the brow bone

Lips:
· Fill in the lips lightly with NARS Red Square Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, dotting the lips with your fingers to blend it in
· Outline the lips with NARS Easy Lover Lip Gloss (NEW for Spring 2010) to create a plush-looking, glassy pout

Cheeks:
· Apply NARS Nico Blush to give a subtle hint of highlighting
· Dust Desire Blush in round, circular movements onto the apples of the cheeks
· Finish with NARS Taj Mahal Blush, blending it in with the pink cheeks and up towards the temples

Review: Aveeno - Daily Moisturizing Lotion

I needed at little lotion at my desk, so when I saw this mini Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion at CVS, I picked it up. I don't know what it is (maybe the oatmeal?) that makes this one so different from other body lotions. It could be the fact that it absorbs so quickly into your skin and you can actually feel the softness after application. When they say it's "clinically proven to moisturize skin for a full 24 hours," they're not joking around. If I put it on one arm, I can DEFINITELY feel the difference between that one and other. It's non-comedogenic and fragrance-free. I have the tiny 1 oz. version in my desk. Try it and tell me you don't like it. Seriously. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to go out and get the big bottle of the Daily Moisturizing Lotion with Sunscreen.

New: NARS - Makeup Cleansing Oil

I'm going to tell you what NARS says about their new Makeup Cleansing Oil ($40). Completely regurgitated, because they did such a good job.

"Great skin begins with a radiant canvas, entirely free of any makeup residue. This technically advanced formula is the first, and most important step in the cleansing process. The weightless, silky solution eliminates makeup traces and flushes out pores, prepping the skin for cleansing. Excess oil coating the skin surface is obliterated, and clarity is visibly improved. Unlike most facial oils, NARS Makeup Cleansing Oil can be applied with wet or dry hands, and rinses off effortlessly with zero residue. Both gentle and effective enough to use on the eyes and lips."
Available September 2009 at narscosmetics.com.

Review: Coppertone NutraShield with Dual Defense

I've been in Martha's Vineyard this whole week with my husband. My in-laws have a house across from the beach, but my husband likes to go to another beach, across the island, Aquinnah. There's no trees or anything, just bushes, so there's no shade at all. Just you and the sun. We've been using the new Coppertone NutraShield line.

I will say that I used to LOVE to tan. In my old age, I've come to my senses and am quite happy to use SPF 70 on my face and hands. (Hands are one of the first things people notice about you, so I want mine to continue to look young). My husband recently looked at my face and said, "Hey, you have freckles now!" and I CAN see the sun damage, mostly across the bridge of my nose. I still like a bit of color on my body, so I use the SPF 30.

-Coppertone NutraShield Faces SPF 70+ with Dual Defense
-Coppertone NutraShield SPF 30 with Dual Defense
-Coppertone NutraShield SPF 70+ with Dual Defense

They are all moisturizing, non-greasy, non-comedogenic, waterproof and fragrance-free. I LOVE the way it sinks in so quickly and doesn't leave any white residue like most sunblocks. All 3 are awesome, I definitely recommend them. I think they all cost around $11.

Review: LaLicious Coconut Cream Body Oil

My new favorite thing is LaLicious Coconut Cream Body Oil ($24). I brought it with me on vacation and it's awesome. I wrote about the Coconut Cream Sugar Souffle Scrub here. This seriously delicious smelling oil absorbs quickly and works on your entire body. I personally like to rub a bit on my scalp then take a bath with a capful of this oil after a day at the beach. I then shampoo my hair for a rich conditioning treatment. This is especially good for dandruff sufferers, it's said to cure dandruff better than medicated shampoos. After I dry off but am still damp, I rub it all over my body. It makes you smell divine, feel soft and provides a nice sheen on skin. Coconut oil is great because it's moisturizing and softening and it restores damaged skin and promotes healing. In a pinch, you can even use it as an eye makeup remover. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Ingredients: Coconut Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Macadamia Nut Oil, Essential and Fragrance Oils, Soybean Oil, Vitamin E Oil.

Plus, if you sign up for the LaLicious newsletter, you will get 15% off your first order.
