Manicure of the Moment: NARS - China Town

NARS - China Town Nail Polish ($16) looks deep blood red in the light and this crappy picture and dark burgundy in person. I used 2 coats. And a super thick, old Sally Hansen clear topcoat because I think I lost my other one that I really liked and can't remember the name of. It's stayed on for a few days without any chips so far. Any suggestions for a good topcoat?

Review: La Mer - The Radiant Concealer SPF 25

There are lots of concealers. My favorites include Bobbi Brown's Creamy Concealer and Corrector, Laura Mercier's Secret Camouflage and Eye Basics and Jouer's Age-Repairing Brightener. Well... I have a new favorite. I must apologize to the aforementioned products, because I think you're pretty amazing. Fantastic, even, but this one left you all in the dust. Enter La Mer's The Radiant Concealer SPF 25 ($65). Once you get past the white plastic container, that makes it seem a little cheap, there is the holy grail of concealers. Here's what they say about it:

This treatment cream concealer instantly evens the skin’s appearance while adding radiance. Gemstones capture light energy to camouflage dark circles and blemishes, optically erasing imperfections to create a smooth, even finish. Precious marine and plant extracts help reduce the appearance of undereye puffiness, lines and wrinkles and minimize pores. Redness and discoloration are diminished as skin is continuously calmed and soothed. Fine layers provide buildable coverage. Skin stays naturally flawless all day. SPF 25.

Medium is a very peachy color. I didn't know if it would work for me. I use my ring finger to gently tap it on underneath my eyes. It makes me look bright eyed and bushy tailed, if that's even a thing. And I'm not someone who is well, ever, bright eyed and bushy tailed. So that's saying a lot. Set it with powder. You won't believe the results. Frankly, if you want to buy ONE concealer that you will use every last drop of, it's this one. I certainly understand your trepidation to plunk down $65 on a concealer, but seriously. It's a damn good investment.

Total Beauty Review: Yves Saint Laurent - Parisienne

I was absolutely delighted to test Yves Saint Laurent's new Parisienne Eau de Parfum Spray, regardless of the fact Kate Moss is the face of it. Parisienne is the "essence of a woman who is incredibly free—she is not from Paris, but Paris adopts her. She knows how to love, how to live. Parisienne is the fragrance of ultra-femininity and sensuality."Gotta love the slightly lilac fragrance encased in a thick gem-like bottle. It is described as a grand floral scent with a woody structure and notes of blackberry, damask rose and sandalwood. I love the way the blackberry mixes with the rose. It is a fast favorite. I do wish it lasted a little longer though.

Total Beauty Review: L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara

I was pretty excited when Total Beauty sent this L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara ($9.49) for me to review. The Flexi-Globe Brush allows you to apply mascara from every angle. The mascara itself is creamy and lengthens and thickens at the same time. This reminded me of Givenchy's Phenomen'Eyes Mascara, that's more than double the price of this one. I was impressed with this, I recommend starting at the outer corners and working your way in. After That I close my eyes and apply on the tops of my lashes too. I didn't have a problem with smudging, but I don't recommend using on the bottom lashes.

Review: Simple - Cleansing Facial Wipes

Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes ($5.99) seemed promising in the package. They claim to be gentle, effective, 100% alcohol and oil free and PH balanced. I gave 'em a whirl. They're not so effective on makeup. As far as I can tell, they take off face makeup ok, but did it remove my waterproof L'oreal Voluminous Mascara? No. Not even close. And I feel like there is a little bit of a sticky residue left after you use them. At $5.99 it comes out to 23 cents per wipe, and that doesn't seem like much of a bargain. For now, I let my husband use them and otherwise save them to clean my dirty brushes. (Why he wants to, I don't know. Well, it's probably because I leave my makeup all over the place and he has ADD so he gets easily distracted. Once he put mascara on his beard, just for the hell of it!) Simple is a UK based brand and was previously hard to find in the US but you can find some at Duane Reed if you know where one of those is.

Review: Ponds Original Clean Wet Cleansing Towelettes

Ponds - Original Clean Wet Cleansing Towelettes ($2.98)- I'm always looking for the ultimate cleansing cloths. I've tried many. With Chamomile, Vitamin E and Triple Tea Complex, these are soothing and non-drying. It can't take off my waterproof Voluminous mascara though. But I have yet to find a wipe that can do that. On the price scale, it comes out to 9 cents per wipe. Overall I think they do a good job taking of face makeup at a good price.

Review: Aquafina Hydrating Lip Oil Trio

I didn't know that Aquafina made anything other than bottled water. Looking at their website now, they apparently have skincare and bath & body care in addition to lip care. I spotted this Aquafina Hydrating Lip Oil Trio ($3.99) at Walgreen's and thought it would be an interesting item to review. It contains jojoba oil, vitamin e and almond oil. If you've ever tried a gel oil (weird concept but cool) it's kind of like that. A gel that penetrates skin immediately and provides a clear sheen. Unsticky... strange. I tried the Raspberry one, but the smell of it makes me a little sick. I have yet to try the Mixed Berry and Original. The Original might not be too bad.

Yoghurt Cooling Gel Sachet
A soothing cream-gel made of real, edible yohgurt, that instantly reduces UV induced redness. This is a really neat gel that smells slightly floral and sinks into skin without being greasy or sticky at all. I think I'll definitely get a full sized one next summer.

Vanilla Cinnamon Little Showergel
Every showergel is enriched with Active Aloe® that stimulates collagen and elastin to reduce the visible signs of aging. Wheat proteins form a protective shield to maintain skin's ideal moisture level and vitamins C, E and Zinc enhance the natural immune system of the skin.

The vanilla cinnamon scent is very nice. Not overly sugary.

Basil Lemon Little Showergel
Scent: fresh, citrus
Feel: Invigorating

I wasn't sure if I'd like this one, but it's refreshing and the thyme gives the lemon a nice kick.

Guava Little Body Butter
This is a thick but not too thick fruity body butter. Very moisturizing without stickiness. Love it.

Wild Rose Moisturizer

After using the sample size of this, I'm definitely considering buying the full size. I love the rose scent and the way it hydrates without being greasy. I'm not sure though... it only has SPF 6 and $32 is kind of a lot.

I've been using this in the morning. It's very lightweight. I like that it has SPF. Makes a good base for concealer. I'm not thoroughly convinced it's worth the price tag.

Overall my favorites of this bunch were the Yohgurt Cooling Gel, the Vanilla Cinnamon Showergel and the Guava Body Butter. I definitely like the quality of Korres products and plan on trying more of them (actually I'm making an order now!) You might think the scents are unusual and not for you, but try them first. You may be surprised.

These thick crayons are an interesting concept. I don't know if I'd call it a grease stick though, when I think of grease, I think of something thick that smears. This sticks exactly where you draw it on however, there's not much smearing to be done. Rubbing it too much causes it to kind of shed. I have the black one. I think its main use for me will be as a base for a smoky eye. I did try it on my waterline, but I don't necessarily recommend that. It irritated my eyes.

Review: Prai Beauty - Scent of a Woman Eau De Parfum

I recently tried Prai Beauty's Scent of a Woman Eau de Parfum Purse Spray from BeautyTicket.com. It's small and has a tiny heart charm decorated with little pink crystals. The smell of it at first made me want to sneeze a little bit. The floral scent is nice but it's strong, even with only one spray. I like the dry down though, it's and musky and warm.

This is the one I tried. It's really nice, it starts out fruity and sweet but dries down to be a less potent floral fragrance. The packaging is awesome. And I love that they're tiny. They measure about 3 or 4 inches I'd say. You end up getting .33 oz. of eau de toilette. Perfume goes bad and I like to try new ones.
